  1. You are not alone. My fiance is still looking. Like you he graduated in Dec and passed NCLEX in Feb. He is going to an interview in Eagle Pass (about a 2.5 hr drive away) next week. I hate the idea of him being gone 3 days out of the week but at this point we don't know what else to do. Good luck!
  2. There are several nursing school in San Antonio. SAC as HouTx stated before me is one of the most affordable nursing schools around. While it is a great school keep in mind that not getting your BSN will limit your job opportunities when you graduate. ADN's are having a very difficult time finding jobs. As far as where to live, I really like to be Central. I live in the Alamo Heights area (the area, not in Alamo Heights). Alamo Heights is pricey but the area around it is very nice and much more affordable :) There are great schools here and is very easy to get to the major highways, downtown, medical center pretty quick. I don't usually have to deal with the traffic that living on the outer areas of town have to deal with. Good luck with your search. Do try and secure a job before you move. Save on some stress.
  3. I can not think of the name of the place... but there is a doggie day care about 2 miles outside Fort Sam's gate at the little shopping center on the corner of Harry Wurzbach and Rittiman rd. I will be passing by there tomorrow. I will get the name for you.
  4. Try UT Arlington's RN-BSN program. I have applied for the fall and from my research and by word of mouth it seems like a great program.
  5. I am a new grad at Christus Santa Rosa downtown. As far as I know Christus isn't a lower paying hospital. I am getting paid 2 1/2 dollars more an hour than my peers who went to Baptist and Methodist. I was always told during school that Christus was one of the higher paying hospitals???
  6. Have you tried Santa Rosa? It is a great hospital with great people. It is hard to get in as a new grad but if you are experienced it is a lot easier.
  7. RNPIC-- San Antonio Texas is where I am working
  8. They didn't so much ask me questions as they did a lot of telling me about the unit and what they want out of an employee. They want someone who is going to be a long term employee, willing to work nights, etc... At the peer interview they asked why I became a nurse and why I wanted to work on the unit. I didn't do something right because I didn't get the job. I'm happy though because I ended up being offered a position at Santa Rosa which was my first choice. Good luck! Let us know how it goes. What unit are you interviewing on?
  9. Have you thought about taking an online review course? Hurst and I believe Kaplan offer them. You can study at your own pace at home. If you can study on your own and feel confident with that they go with your instinct. I am not that disciplined. I'm taking hurst now. Good luck!
  10. I was offered a job at Santa Rosa. It was my 1st choice so I am pretty happy. Good luck on your interviews!
  11. ONENMILGIRL- Could you repost that safety and infection control acronym you told us about? Thanks! I take NCLEX on the 27th... so nervous!
  12. Sorry to hear that. I heard Methodist had 109 applicants for NICU for 2 or 3 positions. I had an "in" and was able to get an interview but it didn't get me the job. It is crazy... Santa Rosa stopped taking apps after they got 1200 apps for only about 60 positions.
  13. Congratulations! I just got offered a level III NICU job too! I am also interested in finding out what reference books to read so I hope you don't mind me hitch hiking on your post. Good luck on your new career!
  14. Hi! Just checking in to see how the job search is going...
  15. I just graduated from nursing school and used this site over and over again. Whenever I had a guestion... Daytonight always popped up... Thanks for the help Daytonight! Your memory and knowledge will live on for a long long time! :redbeathe
