Does any one know more about this?? Are the nursing schools in any danger? I know that Deaconness school of nursing is owned by DeVry but its still in the same building. I found this story on-line at the St louis Post Dispatch.

I just talked to a resident who just finished her OB rotation at Forest Park. She said they announced on Feb. 28 that the OB unit would close on April 28 and then she said that the OR was the next thing to go. I don't know how a hospital can stay open with no OR. Also, another one of our attendings said that the Alexius hospitals aren't long for this world, either, and that they were thinking of moving some of their services (like bariatric surgery) to other places around St. Louis. I don't know anything about the nursing school.

OMG!

I cannnot say that I am surprised truly by what is going on, but I am sad for the employees. I used to be an angeny nurse and I worked 90% of my shifts at Forest Park. It wasn't the greates everywhere, but what hospital is?

I hope that evrything does work out.

You are incorrect with your information. Dr. Perry and Dr. Anderson were both doing high volumes of patients. Everyone know the reimbursement for total joint surgery is excellent. With a service as big as orthopedics, and the admissions, bloodwork required, x-rays and other services needed in the hospital for this service the whole hospital benefits from it and stays busy. It has been established that the hospital was recieving the reimbursements but not paying the vendors. They owe Biomet ALONE almost $500,000.00. The open heart program is still open but does NO VOLUME AT ALL. Last week they recieved 8 Medtronic off pump kits for the heart room and they have not done an off pump open heart for months. Care to guess how much those kits cost? Why is that program open if it was about volume? Go check the stats if you are able and look at the numbers, and please report this information correctly. The O.R. does not have what they need half the time to do their cases, and all is not well at Forest Park. Most of all they do not care. This is how a hospital closes. One service at a time.:nono:

EDIT

I'm interested to continue this conversation with you, but perhaps it's not the best idea for me as an employee to post operating information about the hospital on a public forum. I sent my reply to you via PM.
