I can see this interfering with the work-life balance bigtime. If I have to go to court, I'll need to work on the days that I'm not in court. How do you juggle this? Do you get paid to go to court?

Yes, in my community it is $80 per hour. Since it is work related, you would be excused from work if court conflicted. If court is on an off day, you still need to testify.

However, many SANE cases are plead out without a full trial. Many times the SANE evidence is so compelling the suspect knows that a trial would be a loser.

This has been my experience as well. I did a lot of exams and went to court exactly once between 2011 and 2015 when I was a SANE nurse.

I have worked for the Sheriff Dept for 23 years, most cases are plead out and do not go to court. I have been to court about 3 times.

It’s rare that you have to testify. Sadly, the vast majority of these cases never see their day in court.
