Being an evidence-based kind of guy, my path forward is clear: I need to find a female internist trained in Sweden.

Western countries have long engaged in cherry picking the best and brightest from poorer nations. That's nothing new. Whether their system of training medical students is superior or not, this is been going on for a long time. Another factor, is that generally education from the bottom up is more demanding in many parts of the world. For instance, Eastern and Central Europe demand a lot from their students. Asian countries are known for high standards. Our educational system in the US has gotten to be ridiculously catering to the lowest common denominator.

Some people question how ethical it is to import bright people from nations in need. It's the same with the Catholic priesthood, the US Imports priests from nations that have a higher need then we do. people want to come here because they can live really well and have a cushy life.

It's like back in the day when Jewish doctors were held in such high esteem. That's because there was a lot of obstruction for Jews at the time. Despite the fact that the community in general had a very high standards of education and learning there was a lot of anti-semitism. So, most likely the very brightest were the ones who made it. The ones with ambition, drive, and dedication were the ones who got into the institutions of Higher Learning and succeeded. It's probably the same with many of these immigrants.

I work with a lot of doctors especially from India. They all come from privileged backgrounds. They certainly don't represent the huddled masses in any way shape or form.
