ANILA, Philippines - Aspiring overseas Filipino worker (OFW) Juliana de Castro has sold everything she owned in the Philippines to pay her recruitment fee and airfare to New Zealand, only to discover that her destination was not too keen on recognizing Filipino nurses.
“I don't know what I am to do. All I was dreaming for is for a chance to make a living as a nurse, but coming to New Zealand has really become my worst nightmare," De Castro, whose work visa has expired, told the New Zealand Herald.
De Castro had to sell all her possessions to pay $8,000 or almost P400,000 to her agency in New Zealand and $2,000 or about P97,000 in airfare – something which most Filipino nurses in the their normally go through.
Be warned! Do not come here without your registration already in hand. Also, it is not necessary to use a recruiter or immigration consultant. I am an immigrant to NZ myself and these things do not happen exclusively to Filipinos. Many are lured here and then do not receive registration. The real goal is to get your immigration fees and for you to dump all your cash into the econom (what other country would allow you to immigrate before you are even a registered nurse). Same can happen to doctors.... Very big business here.

another option would be borrowing money from lending companies but ive read that it would be really fatal! lol they would issue exorbitant rates in which we can't afford to pay..
submitted the papers( supplemental docs the council asked) from my nursing school yesterday via DHL..hope to get a favorable response from the council soon,,,
submitted my documents just last week. hoping to hear from them soon. are there still hospitals or district health boards in nz willing to sponsor for the cap?
I totally agree with you, i'm a filipino nurse and i'll be going to nz this june 2009. thank God i have been approved by ncnz to take the CAP course. i didn't go to any agency for my employment, instead i just browsed the internet for a sponsor. and whalla.....one the district health board offered a sponsorship for my airfare and tuition fees for the CAP......Aim High PINOYS!!!!!!

So far, I've attended three seminars offering 'migration scheme' for nurses for the past 2months.
Still, though i liked the 3rd consultancy service, m still pretty much hesitant. Spending a lot of money to invest for ur future is never a joke (it's roughly 70k php for the consultancy fee alone).
I do want to be that brave enough to go thru this entire process by myself to save money but, i might be missing some things...i might be needing someone to point it out to me later on.
See, schools here are not that 'helpful' to their alumni. Getting simple requirements such as BSN course syllabus are really tough...u have to explain again and again what is required, and even if u did, they will still pass a different format. So, m thinking maybe the agency can help smoothen up these details for me.
Now questions for those who applied & about to go, did u get a consultancy agency? is it worth it?
Guys, this 3rd agency even has a tie up agency in NZ. It's (they said) the Ultimate Care Group. Have u heard of it? Is it legit?
I have the option to seek for a sponsorship (they said) but I have to be tied up with this agency for 2years and pay 12-15% every payday.
Please please advise me.
Actually, I started searching options for Au BPs but m afraid i may not be able to meet the financial requirments. Then, I've read that some who are done with their BP are having a hard time looking for jobs.
Php70k is already a great help for you to sustain your CAP here in NZ... I heard a lot of horrible stories regarding agency's broken promises & 2-year bond with interest sucks!!!
You can do it by yourself because agency have no direct role with the decision & outcome of the NZNC assessment. Try to save money & be independent.
I would encourage you to browse nurse2nz.blogspot.com for step by step application to NZ as RN. I did it my own as well with my friends here in NZ... If we can do it then why can't you?

1. Wont it be hard for me to process my papers( authentication of docs in DFA, Malacanang, NZ embassy)?
I mean, wont i be able to save if the agency will process all these things for me? I live in Iloilo City, traveling to Manila not to mention food, fare, accommodation might cost me as much as I pay this agency.
2. How about filing for student visa? Am I the only one allowed to do this or can the agency again help me with this. 'Coz if the agency cud, again i cud save my travel expences.
3. And if ever (hopefully ) I do get to finish CAP, i dont know anyone there in NZ. and I've read a lot of nurses, even NZ nurses themselves, saying it's hard to get a job esp if u dont have at least 2 years of nsg experience.
4. lastly, what happens if after finishing CAP and i still cant get a job, say 3 months... am I to be deported back to PH? huhuhu

Dorzlei going with an agency isn't going to make the paperwork any easier, it will still be the same paperwork only the agency will charge you a lot of money. The risk of returning home is the same regardless on agency or not, if a job is required for you to stay.
I would say your starting point would be the NZ nursing board and see what is required as a International trained nurse, meet their requirements or see what they require you to do to get registered there. Once you have met requirements then look for a employer and then look at what paperwork is required for the embassy. Usually there is clear guidelines on the embassy website so nothing stopping you form doing your research now
