Hello to all! My name is Inna and I am a BSN graduate from the Philippines Batch 2006 (i know that's soo long ago ). Anyways, right after I graduated I moved here in California to pursue a nursing career (as planned!). Long story short I took the exam not once, not twice but 6 times!!!!! I kinda felt stupid and hopeless that I'm never ever going to pass this test. On my 6th attempt I decided to challenge the LVN exam and that one i passed on the first time. I started working as an LVN for a few years then i decided to take the NCLEX RN again and this was at 2013. This was the time that CA BRN became more strict with the requirements and they ended up asking me for my MED SURG/ OB GYN cases and i dont have my cases saved on my e-mail or anywhere. Ill be stuck working as an LVN for the rest of my life and i didnt really want to go back to school to start all over again when I already have my BSN that I studied for 4 years!!!
So last year i decided to apply again, i submitted everything that the BRN required but still they ended up asking me again for my cases and my schools academic calendar from 2002-2006. Im losing hope, Ive been working as an LVN for almost 9 years and really wanted to work as an RN, on what i really studied for. But i didnt give up! I wrote to my school, gave them the copy of the letter from BRN and hoping that my school will submit all the documents that were requested (my father was the one handling all of the transactions since I live here in california).
I waited and waited, looked and applied for schools that offer courses for my defeciencies. Until yesterday, I got a letter from the BRN and in my head im like what do they need now. So I opened it, read it and I almost fainted!!!!!! BRN approved my application to take the NCLEX-RN!!! for some miracle they did approve my application!! I was reading the letter over and over again just to make sure they didnt send it by mistake. LOL :)) I was calling everyone (as if i already passed lol) because im soo happy and excited for this wonderful news! I started calling my batchmates from college (who were having the same problem) and told them to apply, also to make sure that they have all their requirements ready.
Im just sharing my story to give hope to others that are in the same situation as me, there are ways to solve this problem and you wont know until you try it yourself. I thank the Lord for this miracle and also by giving me this chance to better my career as a Nurse I hope this article will help others on their journey. :)
Congrats, Inna!
Yes, most likely your school was making the right course settings for you (and it should be the same for your batchmates), the proof of the pudding will be if they apply and will be granted the ATT.
So it does sound like you met the concurrency rules. It also helps in that you're just at the edge of borderline years (2004-2005) that the CA BRN has been approving PH applicants without too much documentation request. There have been several posters who in those years has not much problems with getting their CA ATT or a license via the endorsement route, provided they could give documents needed for further evaluation.
It also depends and still always on a case-by-case basis even among your own batchmates. If say, one of them couldn't do a delivery in a timely manner, so they had to do it a week or two later AFTER the semester closed, then, the dates do not match and will be found out of compliance with the concurrency rules.
It's those who are passed the "exemption" period years that have to meet the concurrency rules.
Congrats again and good luck in your upcoming exam! Just make sure you pass them, as you never know upon a re-application, the re-evaluation may disallow a re-testing until you have done the re-taking of deficient courses, as some have reported that happening to them also.

thank you!! :) and you're right, i remember there were too many of us in our batch (2006) compared to the 2004 and 2005 nursing students. My school has too move around the theories and RLEs to accommodate all the students.
Thank you again for the kind words! I'll study very hard to pass this one!! LOL
@inna - that's a great news for those who intends to challenge the NCLEX CA but is having doubts because of the concurrency issues. Do you know what your school sent? Perhaps a letter of explanation by your dean? Any inputs can help.
Hi! I don't know what exactly they sent to the BRN, but i wrote my school a letter asking (or should i say demanded them! Lol) to submit what the BRN is requesting. I am assuming they sent them the academic calendar but not the cases since they've been telling that they don't have it anymore.
You should also try sending a letter to your school together with a copy of the CA BRN letter about your deficiencies (if you haven't sent one yet). What batch did you graduate? And do u remember if you took your RLEs the same month as your theories?

if you don't mind asking, have you ever tried contacting the person who evaluated you're file at CA BRN? i have the same situation the problem is already sent everything to them and still they require me to take the med/surg and ob gyn deficiencies class. by any chance do have any idea what kind of TOR or paper work did you're school send to the CA BRN. thank you

i didnt try to call my analyst but i did write a letter saying that i requested all the documents that they were requesting from my school. I gave the analyst my school's information just in case if they want to contact my school. I tried emailing my analyst too but i didnt get any response.
For my TOR, there's nothing really different about it i guess. Well i have a copy of my TOR (i asked for one when i graduated), its just has the classes that i took from 2002-2006 with final grades on it. Im sure its the same with other school's TOR. But as far as i know the last document that i requested from my school was our academic calendar from 2002-2006. I guess my school submitted that one and maybe other supporting documents like when i took my med surg/ ob theories and when we did the RLEs.
Are you currenltly living here in cali? If yes have someone process this for you like a friend/family and give them a precise instructions on what theyre going to ask from your school. Cause thats also what i did, i had my father submit the letters and talk to the people at my school on what i really need from them. You need to demand them for it or a little bit pushy so they can work on it right away. And on your letters, make a suggestion on what they can submit to the BRN that can help with your nclex application. Like a log book from you clinicals or a letter from the current dean of nursing or something.

i graduated from Far Eastern University batch 2006 :)
i see..I'm also a batch 2006 graduated from Emilio Aguinaldo College. I guess I needed to coordinate with my Dean then. It's like processing all the paper works from the beginning again.
you have to re-sumbit all the requirements if your BRN application has expired already. Mine expired 2013 so i have to re-start the application process. I know it'll be a lot of back and forth with your school and the BRN but just be patient about it, hopefullt at the end it'll be worth it.
