For the LMU nursing students...questions

Published

Hi...

Well I just got my acceptance letter to LMU for spring '09; and to be honest I am scared and excited!! I really wanted to know what all you currently attending or graduates of LMU thought/think about their program and what your schedules are like....I have two little boys ages 6 and 3; my 6 yr old is in kindergarten but I'm needing to weigh my options for childcare for my 3 yr old. I was accepted to the Blount county site so I realize that means summer school but that's okay with me. Anyway I really am curious as to whether you go everyday or how the week is split up...any help would be appreciated

Thanks

Heather

They are separate. They call it BIO 250 and BIO 260. Hopefully it will not be too terrible. Hopefully I will see you there!:lol2:

Well....good luck good luck good luck!!! I am sure I will see you there!! I'll be the one who looks lost LOL!!

Do you know how big the nursing class is? I have been curious. I have been taking pre-req's at Cleveland State and their current nursing class is around 100 people.

Take care

Heather

Oh wow I am not sure. Probably not that many. At the Blount site I have only seen one NURS 115 class with a capacity of 40 available. It would be nice to have a small class.

Yeah that would be awesome!! My friend who is attending Cleveland state likes the program but always says she has to get there really early in the morning on lecture days to get a decent seat :)

Take care

Heather

Heather and calRN,

I'm an '08 grad and would recommend arriving early for good seating. One room is long and narrow. If you end up in the back, it'll be more difficult to see, hear, etc. I always sat in the front row. It was easier to pay attention and the instructors could see I was interested. Good luck to you both.

Congratulations on graduating!!! You must be over the moon!! Are you working yet or interviewing anywhere?:yeah:

Well thank you for saying to sit up front I will certainly try and do that....that sounds like good advice. I like to sit towards the front anyway b/c like you said it's easier to pay attention to the lecture.

And speaking of the "lecture" portion how was that? That is what I am most nervous about to be honest......my worst fear is that I've come this far and won't cut it on lecture exams.....that really scares me. So....are the lecture exams modeled after lecture notes, the book, nclex questions? Which site were you at? And did it feel like it went by fast?

Okay I know that is alot of questions...please answer when you can

Thanks and take care

Heather

I don't know where my head is, but I should have said I graduated spring '07. How would I forget my graduation date? Oh, I know why ... once you start working it's such a different world -- so different from school -- that you almost forget you even went to school! I already had a job before I graduated because I worked as a tech on the floor I was interested in. Then I changed jobs for a schedule that better suited my family. (I think you and I have PMed, yes?)

The questions for N115 are somewhat straightforward but become more modeled after NCLEX questions as the semester moves along. Then almost all questions are NCLEX style. My best advice is to use Saunders and other similar resources to help study for the exams. They help you to think like NCLEX. I was at the Blount Site and, yes, it went by fast, but it was intense and hard. I studied every minute I wasn't in class or clinicals.

Oh how funny you put graduated in 08 :) I am sooooo happy for you and yes I did PM you and probably will again if that's ok.

I know I do have alot of questions and I guess it is the fear of the unknown and also the fact that so many people end up dropping out of NS that has me scared :) Of course I remember this same feeling before I took A&P I; and I made a B; so that is not so bad.....I just really want this and want to do well.

I have a friend currently in nursing school and I think this first semester has flown by for her; and she says the same thing you did....study study study :)

Thanks again

Heather

RN007,

I sent you a PM a few days ago. I'm not sure if you received it. I think your PM box is full.

Hey, Heather ..... I'm currently attending LPN school at the Blount site (Alcoa), but it's through Blount Memorial Hospital's PN program, not LMU, so....can't comment on LMU teachers, etc. Wishin' ya luck !!!! I DO have to say that we have great instructors on our side ;) ;) ;)

Congrats!!! I have to agree with some of the other comments. I am currently attending LMU@ the Blount site. I graduate in May 09. (Thank GOD!!!) This school is very disorganized. I would not recommend it to anyone considering nursing school. You are cheated on work that you are required to do just to receive satisfactory or unsatisfactory.I may not be the best person to ask for an opinion on this school. I will be honest with. I just pray that I make it through this semester I am curious to see what they have up their sleeve to surprise us with. Be prepared to have clinicals in Sweetwater.
