Whats up peeps? It seems like sometimes the only people I think frequent this forum are either forum elders that have been here a while or people trying to find out info about entering school. Dont here much from all the SRNA's, RRNA's out there so just wanted yall to give a little shout out and tell us whats up, where you goto school, how you are doing, how long you have left, whats you favorite volatile, what you do on your free time, what beer you like, or just what ever. It seems as though in a sense the forum has started to fade off a bit, or at least if I compare it to 2-3 yrs ago when I was finding out valuable info here.
Ill start.
Program - Baylor ? yr, soon to be ?
I love it, but its tough as hell
Go out yeah right, have only stepped outside once this weekend to take the trash out:crying2:
Like BudIce light, cheap, lite, smooth and potent:idea:
Feel like I have begun the journey to enter a wonderful profession and am pumped.
Holler back, and good luck studying or in clinical ( although im not sure wishing someone good luck in the OR is the best thing)
Anyhow lets see how many SRNA's, RRNA's really do visit this forum. Holler, later.
Favorite inhaled agent: don't know, haven't tried any, but I suspect desflurane.......in the sevo vaporizer.
Good idea!
I have several beers that I call favorites. Right now I'm going through a batch of homebrewed red ale that I cooked up over the holidays. When I buy, first rule is nothing in a can. I like anything from Sam Adams, New Belgium (Fat Tire, Blue Paddle, Loft), Sierra Nevada...
I'm in the second semester at UNCC now. The first semester was a snooze, but we are actually getting busy this semester. I have a test at noon and should be studying right now, but...
I've learned a lot from this forum. It is good to hear others perspective.
Nitecap...great thread and I always enjoy reading your posts, you seem to have your crap together.
ASU in Jan, 1 month +, 7 tests into it..... not too bad so far, worried about April when we start clinical time 4 days a week!
Coors light, Mic ultra light or whatever is in the pitcher that somebody else paid for
Later...
Hey peeps, I'm in my second semester at Villanova/Crozer-Chester, grad Nov. 2007. I love school but still feel like I'm really task-oriented and all thumbs when it comes to putting the big picture together. It will come in time, I guess. I still find time to go out, probably more than I should, but all work and no play makes a person very dull, right??! I'm still working part-time and I just got a puppy so needless to say life is very busy!! As for your other question, I'm a total beer/wine/food snob. I like the belgian beers like Chimay, La Chouffe, and Lindemann's Framboise. Unfortunately it doesn't really agree with my poor student budget. Like somebody else said though, many Australian wines are very good and they're cheap!!! I just can't wait until I can put those 4 little letters CRNA after my name!!! Good luck with school everyone and congrats to those who are almost done!!!
183 days left at Kaiser.
Rarely go out.... mostly play with plastic dinosaurs and read books with names like "The Giant Jam Sandwich" in my spare time.
Drink: Boddington's
Fantasize regularly about sleeping for 10 hours in a row and getting a paycheck.
Currently procrastinating.....
Fortunate that my biggest trouble in life is getting through this program.
It's easy to post when you're a first year, you love school, life is easier.
As a second year, I find that I barely have time to get anything done, including laundry and grocery shopping.
I hate everything, I hate careplans, I hate everyone.
I live for the weekends, I barely drink anymore because it cuts into my sleeping and napping time. In fact, on fridays when I get home from clinical I am so excited that I can just nap. I love to clean on fridays also. What is working out? Coudl this be the reason you've gained so much weight.
I visit the forum when I can and don't contribute as much as a used to, but that's just because of the stage of school I'm in. Perhaps you're not hearing from many SRNAs because they're all too busy right now.
Five semesters in, two to go. Or roughly 81/2 mos b/c I saved all my vacation time for the end.
When I do have the chance to drink it's captain and coke.
Favorite class: Yeah right! I only like going to class so I don't have to wake up so early and work.
Favorite gas: Whichever one is the most full in my vaporizer at that moment :chuckle
I am also very fortunate that my biggest trouble in life right now is getting through school.

Yeah, what she said. Not to be a downer on this thread, but everything she said is true. We are in clinicals full-time now, classes are over. Seniors staff rooms solo - no CRNA around your entire senior year. Wait until you are doing the job of a CRNA, unstupervised, for 40-60 hours a week continuously - for free. Kinda wears you down after a while. Alot has changed with all of us from our first to second year. The BS and social fluff has disappeared. Here's to being a short-timer.
I'm only in my second semester but I have the combined pressure of hardcore school plus two days a week of clinicals. It's really hard because I may have a great smooth intubation on Friday, but then I don't see the OR again til Thursday and I'm all clumsy again. Mostly I am stressed in clinical because there is SO MUCH to learn so fast. I'm not yet at the point of carrying pt's lives on my shoulders, because my preceptors won't let me do anything too dumb. I'm most nervous about the verbal criticism, probably. The skin is slowly growing tougher.
It is rough, I sleep a lot when not in school or the OR. Yesterday all I ate was a mocha and some M&Ms . . . taking care of yourself is hard with such time constraints.
Jewelcutt, your posts have sounded miserable for a while now. Will life as a CRNA be better/different? It sounds like you're basically working a full-time job now. Is it the addition of school, financial pressures, and approaching boards that makes it lousy?
You are so close to being done, just keep showing up!
I can say that the only thing that makes me miserable is school and clinical. The whole not seeing your friends, not going out, not being able to have a life, being in debt doesn't bother me at all. I don't like my program, . Just when you think you're doing well, you get shot down. Always worrying about who you're going to be with and dreading going back to your home institution will over time make someone very bitter. I love being at other clinical sites, and I know I'll love life as a CRNA. The politics of school and clinical are unfortunate. All I want to do is learn. Fortunately, I knew these two semesters would be rough. Once the spring semester gets here, things should brighten up quite a bit, so I'm really looking forward it. I'm really looking forward to being done so I can study freely and become a better practictioner. Thanks for your concern, this board is always very helpful to me, as are my classmates. Sometimes you just need to get support from your friends and secretly use voodoo against those who make your life difficult
