Hi everyone!
I have recently graduated and passed NCLEX, and last week I was extremely fortunate to have an interview in my dream department. The interview went very well (and I was sure to send out Thank You notes out via mail within 24 hours of the interview, too), and I was told by the NM that it would take about a week and a half to make a decision as they had a few more candidates to interview. It has just passed the week and a half point, and I have not heard anything (and my references have not been contacted, either).
After the interview, the NM said to feel free to contact her if I had any questions. Since I have not heard back yet, should I try and contact her Tuesday? Is it appropriate to email her regarding this? Should I contact HR in addition (as I interviewed with them the same day as well)? I'm not really sure who in the system I should be contacting in regards to this and what would be the appropriate means of communication.
Also, should I be concerned that my references haven't been contacted yet?
Thanks for your help. I'm new to the whole world of professionalism in nursing and don't want to mess this opportunity up!

I would call the NM on Tuesday if you haven't heard by then.
Make sure you check your email and your JUNK folder. My offer came by way of email and was filtered to the spam folder. Good thing I checked! :-)
You are a new grad, your references may not matter to them. They never did contact my references, so don't worry yet!

I agree, I think it would be appropriate to call HR or e-mail the NM on Tuesday to check up on your status and let them know you are still interested. The fact that they have not reached out to your references could mean a lot of different things. Maybe they are still interviewing other candidates...or like scaredsilly said maybe they won't even call them at all.
Also, I have found that they usually take longer to get back to you than the time that they state. So, don't get too worried just yet. I would probably reach out to the NM directly via e-mail.
No matter what the story is, I hope that you are still applying to other jobs... never put all of your eggs in one basket...good luck!

RN403 covered all the main points.
Many managers are so busy, that it does take us a lot longer than we'd like to wrap things up.
Also, keep in mind that after a 3 day day weekend, the manager will be uber-busy coming back on Tuesday. A holiday just means we do the same amount of work in 4 days instead of 5.
