Fold and Mold Dressing Packing

Updated:   Published

For some reason I am having a difficult time getting my wound dressing to look right. Either it's not "fluffy" enough or I feel it doesn't cover enough of the wound. As a LPN I was taught to use an sterile cotton tip applicator but with the CPNE we can't use them. I've been using the technique shown on the Excelsior video. Recently I saw a post on FB talking about using the "fold and mold" method. I've tried to look for videos on Youtube but didn't find any.

Is anyone familiar with this method or has any tips to packing the wound?

@Feral.Cat.Herder oh yeah definitely start on the POC because that takes the longest to grasp with the do's & don'ts lol, you need to work on pneumonic for all your AOC you will need it for your POC & Notes. To be honest with you, after reading my NSL, I set it aside and spent all my studying on POC, ASSESSMENTS & Notes. I didn't start with lab practice until 2wks consistently before I left for my wkend, because i know this is only half a day of my whole wkend and I need it to be fresh on my mind! I'd 6wks short notice to take my CPNE and it paid off with no repeats! So when I tell you that you can do it, I truly do mean it.

Also try not to pay attention to any negative people that may have been unsuccessful on this test and/or scares you that's it's hard because this test is VERY DOABLE...?

@simplybam, thank you so much! You're the best!

Omg! think I better start doing it this way now at work. I use cotton tip applicators all the time when doing wound care. I hope this will not be the death of me when I get to cpne. Thanks for the tips everyone.

IKR. I've been trying to do everything I can at work like I'm learning it for the CPNE!
