FNP vs. AC-AGNP

Nursing Students NP Students

Hello all,

I am trying to decide whether I should do ACNP or FNP. I am totally confused. It would be great to have some insight from anyone who is or going for ACNP or FNP.

Is anyone in the Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP) or Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) program now? if yes, which school are you going to? how is the program so far? How much is it going to cost you? is the program all online? How did you decide if you wanted to do ACNP or FNP? What factors did you take into consideration when deciding to do ACNP or FNP? Is anyone done with their program for FNP or ACNP? if yes, How is the job hunt or if you already have a job, how is that going? How is the workload and how is it on the floor? what are the hours of work?

I am thinking of going to GCU for NP school. Anyone have any insight on how the FNP and ACNP programs are at GCU?

Thank you a bunch in advance.

I opted for the FNP program because it seems like there is a wider range of jobs in my area. The adult-geri cohort is larger though.

Thank you all for your input. I have decided to go for FNP program instead of AG-ACNP. Now I am just trying to find my clinical sites for preceptorship. How did you all find your clinical sites?

I knew I wanted to stay within my hospital's organization, so I contacted the student director and asked for a list of potential preceptors. I then sent emails to those who fit what I needed for next semester.

Hello all,

Update: After careful consideration for NP, I decided to do ACNP instead of FNP. I realized I wanted to stay within the hospital system rather than doing community health. Thus, I will be starting the program in 01/2016 at GCU. Thank you all for your input. It has helped me a lot to make the decision.
