Anyone here went to or currently in the United States University family nurse practitioner program?
Hi everyone! As far as I know, USU is a great school I’m almost done with the 3rd class of the program! I haven’t gotten to my clinical courses just yet! Will advance into them next year! As for clinical sites, you do have to find your own locally wherever you’re at, but if you do need help, they office of field experience can assist you! Everything is going great so far! I live in Chicago!
Thank you for your response! Glad to hear you’re liking the program. Would you say it is doable while working? I currently work 5 8’s and just want to make sure doing the course load will be manageable while working full time. Is this an asynchronous program? Or are there online lectures and classes to attend?
From my orientation and speaking to my enrollment advisor, it is mainly asynchronous material. There might be some situations where the instructors may want to meet but they say it doesn't happen often. I will be starting at the end of June. I'm looking forward to it. I'm currently working 4 10s plus some Fridays so I'm hoping it'll be OK. I'll keep you posted.
So far all coursework is online! You take one class at a time the first year. Clinical rotations start year 2. There is one course where you will personally have to go to the campus to practice assessment skills before starting rotations!? it is also accredited nationwide! All graduating students can take their state exams in the state where they live!
Hello everyone, I am thinking of starting the FNP program at United States University this October. I noticed in the "student portal" there are numerous areas I need to read and "initial". One of the sections reports "exam passage rates" and all are listed as N/A. At the bottom is says, "this program does not prepare you for state licensure, so therefore passage rates are not required". This makes me a little nervous. Is anyone currently enrolled that can speak to the preparation you are receiving to pass the state licensing exam to become a FNP? If anyone is willing to share their email with me so I could a few more questions? Trying to do my due diligence and speak to people who are actually in the program. I would really appreciate it. Thank you. My email: [email protected]
Hi RLJ. Yes I’m currently in the FNP program with United States University and the program so far is great.I have no issues with the school it’s an accredited program and when I spoke to the enrollment advisor at school he said the passing rate was like 90 something after graduation for boards. I don’t know why it’s not posted on the site. I’m about to enter my 5th class into the program and it’s not bad at all! The teachers and students are all great and helpful! U can work on the side for the first half of the program. Then after you have to cut down I think because of clinical rotations. I’m on into my next FNP class! Will keep you posted as I advance! ???

Hey Alina,
I'm currently in the program, but I have to stop for personal reasons. I'm planning to go back. How did you studying for the hessi for patho and pharm? I did find the path was very heavy, a lot of group work, and midterm finals. I had no help from the instructors; it was self-taught, and I find it overwhelming. Anyone, please help

Hi Abigail,
What class are you in now? Im about to start FNP health promotion across lifespan. Haven't gotten to patho and pharm yet. Did u end up passing patho and pharm? Im glad you were able to share your experience because I haven't gotten there yet. Hope it will be decent enough.? Are there discussion posts for patio and pharm as well and assignments?
Best, Alina RN, FNP Student
I did patho, and I was able to download the syllabus for pharm. I dropped out due to COVID 19; I didn't take my finals. It's a lot of work among everything that's going on. You have group work on top of your discussion every week. And you have to study for the Hessi and finals; I can honestly say you have no help, no study guides whatsoever. I was overwhelmed; I had to drop out of the program. I also think I had a mental break down. It was during the beginning of COVID 19; I leave in South Florida I couldn't cope with everything that was going on. You have group members of different geographic areas that called you at any time. Sometimes it can be at 2 am because you have a different time zone. It wasn't fun, and if I am honest, I was over it. It's a robust program; I will go back because it is very affordable, and Im use with their blackboard, and I know how to maneuver around it. I'm like an older person I don't like changes that's one of the reasons why I don't want to go to a different university. But it gets real
Aww I’m sorry to hear. Well, I wish things get better for you, yes it’s very hard and I’m worried about these upcoming classes. It’s been tough on my part, my grandfather died because of COViD back in May of this year and Suprisingly I managed to continue. For like a month and a half I wasn’t myself anymore. Things got out of hand, but I managed to continue. As for the program and the school , I really like it and I was thinking to transfer to another school Recently but figured all the schools have the same material and studying to pass the boards so I stuck to this one because it’s affordable. The other school was way more expensive than this one. I think we will be okay, I’m taking it step by step one class at a time. It’s no rush to get this done and then fail. I feel that we are smart and capable. But please try together back in! I heard the FNP career is sooo nice once you start working. I have a lot of friends who said it’s super rewarding! I hope you find this well, but I know we can do it!??

Those are all definitely understandable and great reasons!! My concern is the finding your own Clinicals and preceptors, I heard that can be the most stressful part of FNP school and I’ve read that sometimes dishing out the extra money is worth it to have the school find clinical placements.
