  1. Sorry this post is late but Kaiser (in my area at least. I am in Fresno, CA) medical surgical unit does 8 hours.
  2. Hello, This might not mean much but I had a very similar situation to yours. I had been in the health care field as a technologist/CNA/LVN (I was active duty military and now civilian side) for about 16+ years. I have both experienced the hospital setting and outpatient setting as a tech/CNA/LVN. In those 16+ years I saw how nurses ran the floor and wanted to be one, but at the same time running the floor doesn't mean glitz and glamour! In fact, what deterred me from being a nurse was the amount of nastiness they were to each other. Fast forward to the 17th year of my career as a technologist, I decided to go into nursing because I knew it was right for me despite what I saw and cultures do change. I agree with everyone who said, if you can, shadow a few nurses since you're already working in a hospital. Really see their day to day and learn what they're responsible for. Taking care of someone's life is not for the faint of heart even though there are protocols in place. I have experienced labor and delivery, ambulatory procedures units (PACU), cardiology/internal medicine, medical-surgical, and now I am an admin nurse. That is a whole new ball game. And so far being a nurse, I was proven both right and wrong regarding the attitudes towards each other but ultimately it depends on how I handle those situations. I got my BSN in 2018 when I was 38 and this is my third career. So at 32, you're still young but I get why you feel you need to make a positive career change for the long haul. I am excited for you and I wish you all the best.
  3. From my orientation and speaking to my enrollment advisor, it is mainly asynchronous material. There might be some situations where the instructors may want to meet but they say it doesn't happen often. I will be starting at the end of June. I'm looking forward to it. I'm currently working 4 10s plus some Fridays so I'm hoping it'll be OK. I'll keep you posted.
  4. I picked USU to transfer from my current FNP program mainly because it's on the Board of Registered Nursing of CA list of approval. The current program that I am in, the school is out of MA and it is possible that I have to take more classes after spending close to $70k ... I'm just not going to do that to be honest. The other reason is also affordability and the last reason is I like the due dates and times according to my time zone. I've had group projects and we're all in three different time zones plus each of us are also at different course of our programs (I'm still in the beginning stage and one of my groupmates is doing his clinicals). That can make group work challenging. I'm not saying I won't have that challenge as well in USU because the cost outweighs the group work LOL. So far, my dealings with USU has been good because we're both are keeping our lines of communications open.
  5. I just did orientation for USU and yes you have to find your own preceptors and sites.
  6. Thank you Alina! It's great knowing how the instructors and staff are. What software does the school use for proctoring their exams?
  7. I am used to focusing on one class at a time too because that's how my BSN was. My current FNP program is not like that and I'm finding it challenging plus we have to meet once a week per class. Just trying to figure out what's best. I appreciate your reply! Thank you so much :)
  8. Is it 100% asynchronous materials or do you have to meet once a week for live class? I'm currently in another online FNP program that's all the way in the East Coast and considering the move because USU is FAR more affordable and in the same time zone as me. Any suggestion is appreciated ?
