Hello,
I'm thinking of applying to nursing school, but reading some of the posts about pay and I'm really surprised. I thought nurses made more money. I live in central Florida and I make more money as a claims adjuster at $25 an hour with just my AA degree. I'm not understanding how nurses go through nursing school, student loans, line of work etc to make so little. It is very upsetting because you should be paid a lot .

If you are going into nursing solely for the money, you're not going to last long. We may not make luxurious salaries (although being a travel nurse helps) but in the end job satisfaction and not having to grunt about going to work or working 5 days a week (we work 3 and off 4) is priceless. 12 hours is really nothing, just 4 hours more than 8. Happy to put those extra hours in in exchange for 2 extra days of not getting dressed and commuting.
At this point in my life it is about getting into a field that at the end of the day makes me feels rewarded and provides stability.
I was just saying for everything a nurse does, stress through nursing schools, loans etc, you would think the starting pay was higher.
I want a career change in a field where I feel like I am helping someone not feel like a robot over the phone.

You can make a lot more money in nursing if you are willing to live somewhere other than FL.

I think simply put its more about job satisfaction. Liking what you do (for the most part) and the schooling just comes with the territory. After all, you are dealing with peoples lives. So id prefer schooling not be in the express lane
