  1. Hello, I have searched the Internet and this forum but didn't find my answer. I am 41 years old, not a nurse yet but applying in May '16. Now if accepted in the program, I figured I would be 43-44 when graduating. My son is going into the air force and I am interested to be a nurse in the Air force or Navy. Would I be to old to join as a Nurse? If not, would I have to go through the same training as someone enlisting with no degree? Do you get the same benefits as someone just enlisting? I believe the oldest you can be to join the Air Force is 39, but wasn't sure if it is different if you joined as a nurse? Or if you're considered a civilian nurse and in that case there isn't any age requirements? Please forgive me if these questions have been answered before.
  2. What is the night schedule like at dsc? Days and times for the first semester?
  3. I currently how a 2.89 because I screwed up in my earlier years but I am not giving up. I am retaking 4 classes to try to get my gpa up to a 3.0. I was told the lowest gpa accepted has been anywhere from 2.9 to 3.1. What I don't understand is why not put the requirements to 2.9 or above if they never would accept anything lowered than that, right now it is 2.5 to be able to apply. I definitely didn't have my crap together when I was in college right after high school, now that I am in my forties I totally regret it, but I know I definitely can do better. I just have to work harder now.
  4. Can someone tell me what the night schedule would be like? If you do the evening classes, are all the classes, labs, and clinicals after 2? Also, what is the jump start workshop?
  5. I know this is an old post, but I'm curious what Ever happened to the person that started this post? Did you make it into the RN program and with what gpa?
  6. Congratulations to all of you who got accepted into the program! Is anyone doing the afternoon/evening program? If so, can you tell me how your schedule will be? I'm not applying till September, but I work during the day and was told you can complete the program at night meaning after 2 till 11 or something like that?
  7. I need to raise my gpa, right now I'm at a 2.89 and would like to be at a 3.0. My school requires you to have at least a 2.5. I have 4 classes ( not required by the nursing program) I failed years ago that can help bring up my gpa or I can take 2 courses required for the bsn, which one should I take? Do I take the ones I failed or take the ones required if I ever decide to go the bsn route? Please note I am trying to go for my adn just want to know which would look better when my application is reviewed?
  8. Thanks everyone! I'm very nervous.
  9. Great! I was told you get a calculator on the computer I better sharpen up my skills.
  10. I'm hoping to apply to the DSC program in September. I bookmarked this thread and wish you all the best of luck! I still need to take the Teas, do they provide a calculator on the computer for the entire math test?
  11. Can you use a calculator during the exam or will one be provided for ALL math questions? Also, if you don't do get the score you wanted on a particular section, can you retake that section without taking the whole test again?
  12. At this point in my life it is about getting into a field that at the end of the day makes me feels rewarded and provides stability. I was just saying for everything a nurse does, stress through nursing schools, loans etc, you would think the starting pay was higher. I want a career change in a field where I feel like I am helping someone not feel like a robot over the phone.
  13. Hello, I'm thinking of applying to nursing school, but reading some of the posts about pay and I'm really surprised. I thought nurses made more money. I live in central Florida and I make more money as a claims adjuster at $25 an hour with just my AA degree. I'm not understanding how nurses go through nursing school, student loans, line of work etc to make so little. It is very upsetting because you should be paid a lot .
  14. Hello, I'm interested in going into the nursing program at Daytona State College, all my prerequisites are completed, except I need to retake APII, but my Cumulative GPA is only 2.83. I know you have to have a 2.5 to apply to the program and you're ranked according to GPA, but what are my chances to get in? Do they even consider people under 3.0? Thank you for your response in advance.
