Florida Online RN-BSN programs

U.S.A. Florida

Published

I know there is another thread about online bridge programs, but there are 48 pages and I need specifically Florida programs because I have Bright Future's. If anyone could suggest some for me, that would be great! I know about FSU and UCF. Thanks a lot!!! =)

The University of West Florida in Pensacola has an online RN to BSN program accredited by CCNE! Information can be found at http://uwf.edu/nursing/major-bridge/genl_info/

You never need to go to campus. The final semester is a Practicum which you complete in your own locale - you do need to arrange for a community based preceptor and facility to complete this.

There are 32 hours of upper division nursing coursework that can be completed in three semesters.

Florida does have a lot of general studies/common pre-requisite coursework but all Florida schools must abide by those requirements so the difference is in the nursing coursework.

Fall 2010 UWF is implementing an RN-MSN program with the capability of decelerating to the BSN if necessary. The two tracks for the MSN are nursing administration and nursing education.

Check it out!

cool!!

I may want to do a master's degree in nursing education in the future!! and I'm all for state schools online!

has anyone done the math for what the actual costs would be for anyof these programs?

I've been a nurse for over 25 years and have thought about going for my BSN. I went to college for a couple of years before i decided upon nursing but I don't know if these credits would transfer. I think the online programs would be great but I still have little ones at home, the youngest starts kindergarten next year(my oldest starts college next year too!!) Not sure if this is my season but I do get some tuition reimbursement from my job so I keep thinking I should utilize that benefit and wrap up my degree.

So if anyone has done some numbe crunching, I would love to hear from you. thx

At FIU. Undergrad price per credit is $146.

One 3 credit-class online will cost you $665.

So, the program is 33 credit classes.

and the EC exams-- which are about $275 each, and there are 3 of those exams. and you get 30 credits from those exams

that makes FIU cheaper than many programs that are out there, because the EC exams save you a lot of money

Florida Hospital College of Health Sceinces has a great ONLINE program with no onsite required. It is a part of the Seventh Day Adventist but they DO NOT force their beliefs on you in the program. You should check them out. They are in line with the other Florida institutions for in state tuition.

but they are also private, and that is a lot more expensive.

I just calculated the total amount that I paid for my BSN degree. and including all the fees and taxes it comes out to $5,600;) and that's including what i have not paid for yet.

If you compare cost with UF and FSU it is not that much different. FSU RN-BSN is currently suspended according to their own website. Heard a rumor TCC is going to offer their bridge and the others have much more clinical time involved.

Well all I can say is email them or call them today

Good Luck, I decide to apply to FIU and Kent State RN to BSN online programs

Hi >30yrsRN!

Wow, I am in the last semester at FIU and let me tell you, now is when I regret going to FIU:crying2:

There are 120hrs for practicum clinical and 60hrs for community health clinical. And of course you have to finish by the end of the term. And you have to find your own clinical site. They tell you to start looking within your own place of work.

FIU does not give you a list of clinical sites affiliated with the school so literally I had to google search community health clinics and just call each place one by one and I was lucky enough that after the 70th call one took me as a student. I was about to cry just looking for a place to do these hours.

Oh, and yes at FIU it is a couple of less classes to take than FAU because of those EC exams..... BUT... FAU gives you 20 credits JUST for being an RN. FIU gives you only 6 credits for being a nurse!! only 6!! because each EC exam is 8 credits, so 8x3=24 and since they give 30 credits for those, you get 6 free credits! and FAU gives you 20 credits!!!

At FAU I heard that they give you a list of places and projects to do your clinicals at. For example, I know that as a group, the students went to tenesse to teach classes of health at a community center, and another one for practicum taught some diabetes class at a health fair. I think that is more appropriate for an RN-BSN student who is already a nurse.

seriously FIU thinks that we have all this time to do these hours-- like we don't have full time jobs and families to deal with.

Thank God I am in the end of it.

I wish I would of known that clinicals were going to be like this, because if I had known that I had to do all these hours, and the incredible amount of driving I have to do, I would of just gone to FAU & I would of saved myself so many hours of my time.

I give FIU 3stars out of 5.

3 because I did enjoy the beginning portion of just online classes. I did also enjoy that I did not have to take more courses online and I can get credits by testing.

but :down: for the fact that there are so many hours to do, and that there is no list on facilities affiliated with the school.:down:

definitely I will not recommend this state school to anyone else who wants to do the RN-BSN program. I will recommend FAU based on the information I received from other people who attended there.

I wish I would of known about this. I did a research and I could not find anyone's opinion regarding this program. I think I am the first one on here who posted anything about FIU.

Oh well....

Oh by the way MDC's RN-BSN is similar to FIU's. I met a person doing that program, and they have to do onsite clinicals like FIU as well.

so thumbs down for MDC too!

FAU: http://nursing.fau.edu/index.php?main=3&nav=362

FIU: http://cnhsonline.fiu.edu/

I'm not sure how the clinicals work at FIU or FAU if you're not local to those schools, however FSU does state that you can attend the RN-BSN online program from anywhere in the state of Florida.

I'm sure there could be more, but this is what I know of.

FAU is a better choice.

MDC & FIU you actually have to go every week so you can complete a certain amount of clinical hours for com. health & practicum.

at FAU you don't have to do that.

I work for Florida Hospital and they have an RN to BSN program. They will foot the bill if you sign a contract that you will work full time while in the program and two years after you finish. You have to pay back 21,000 if you break the contract. I am not willing to sign such a deal. I was hoping that they would just pay xxx amount of money each year for schooling.

The cost per credit hour at this school is over $300.00 I believe. It is too expensive. This institution currently pays an additional 60 cents an hour if you have a BSN, hardly worth it IMO.

I love school and learning but frankly I am so disatsifised with my job that i don't even know if nursing is in my future.

I am disappointed with Florida Hospital and the way the nurses are treated, the patient ratio. It is unfair for the patients, unfair for the nurses and certainly unsafe for patients. It seems it is always about the budget not the patient at this hospital.

Can't think of too many hospitals that aren't like this. It's just the way it is today.
