Hey Benjie!!!

It's great to see that CA will be represented out here. How long have you been in Miami?

Has anybody heard that new grad RNs are having trouble finding jobs? I'm reading that on other threads on this site....it greatly concerns me. Perhaps the UM hospitals are good about making sure they hire their new grads? Anybody's input is greatly welcome.

Funny enough. I have met so many people from So Cal living here in Miami. About 7 people I've met so far even went to the same school I did for my first degree - USC.

I haven't gotten anything detailing what is required for the background check or immunizations but I spoke with the person at UM who handles that. He said they plan to mail the packets shortly. Best thing is to start getting shots and titers now. If we wait for the packet, it might be too late since it can take some time to get results of the titers or to get the entire series of shots for Hep B.

I got my shots from a Nurse Practitioner at The Minute Clinic @ CVS in Pinecrest. It was a really nice experience. She spent lots of time with me and I didn't have to wait weeks for an appointment. You just show up when they're open. :-)

Now I need to find a local doctor to order the titers. I tried just going to a lab and asking for the bloodwork - but it seems a doctor has to ask for such things. :-)

that sounds pretty cool. i agree we should all try to meet before school starts.

chances are we will all team up together when things get rough to prepare for the tests. i was never a group studier but it sure has helped me with anatomy and physiology. learning from and teaching other classmates helped me get a 4.0 in my pre-reqs. :-)

we could also meet here in brickell in the future if there is any interest. the place i live, the plaza on brickell, has 2 huge pools, lots of cabanas, two conference rooms, and a mixed use party-type room which i can reserve for us. restaurants are within walking distance as is the metromover and metrorail. since parking in the building is very expensive and street parking not always easy to find - some may want to take advantage of the rail system, carpool, or ride a bike (go bike miami days!).

Hi everyone!

I don't know if I got accepted. Didnt recieve a letter, just an e-mail from Re admissions saying that I was accepted but I need to show them my immunizations record to complete my admission. I am completely in the dark. Where is this website that you guys are able to talk to each other on UM page? I will be commuting from Coral Springs.

Hello All,

You may have read my previous post from earlier today... but this is an update. I did get accepted to the Summer ABSN program! I am so excited. I currently work for one of the last standinf mortgage companies and have been doin that for the past 5 years. The reason I choose nursing is because someone very special to me passed away in Hospice 2 years ago.. and the journey to care for her in her final years, months, days and hours was incredible. not that her passing was incredible, but it did make me realize that I have a bigger purpose in life than to give people loans.. I have doing my pre reqs at night so I really feel like finally the sacrifice is starting to pay off!!! I cant wait to meet all you guys!! I will be commuting from Coral Springs and will most likely take advantage of the tri rail. Or car pool if any one else is up this way! I have not recieved anything in the mail yet but I know they have a hold b/c of my immunization records. I will prob start to research how to pay for school!! :yeah:

Hi there. I'm also starting the accelerated bsn program at UM this summer. I'm having some trouble figuring out financial aid though. The financial aid department says we won't receive any info on how much loans you can get until mid to late april. That seems very late in the process since the program begins in May. I am confused on what to do. Does UM give Stafford Loans for the summer? I would expect they would being we are taking 19 or so credits, but it I am unclear on this. Are you guys going to go ahead and apply for private loans? I'm not sure where to begin. I'm planning on applying for the scholarship, but I don't think I can rely on that working out. Any suggestions?

Yeah...I was just looking into Finaid and heard the same thing....late April. It does seem a little late, but I guess thats how they do it.

Does anyone know how many are in the program?

I heard that the class of 07-08 started out with about 75 but by the time graduation came around there were about 55 left... eh!

Apply for the scholarship!! I did it! Also if you decide to apply for the scholarship get your application in asap... I recently found out they have been accepting applications since December and they are given out on a rolling basis so when they're given out, that's it.

Also I've sent evites out for a pool party for all of us to meet it's April 4th, please message me your email address (if you post it on here the moderator will remove it) so that I can add you to the invite list. The invitation can be viewed here http://www.evite.com/pages/invite/viewInvite.jsp?event=CONUOQQJKVOPUOPUNXKI&inviteId=NWCCTPNGNTEIDYAAVGAM&showPreview=false&x=942489207

I asked Ms. Cabrera about this yesterday and she said that is definitely not the case. She said people do drop but she can usually count them on one hand and with the accelerated program she has not seen very many at all.

oh, okay. i didn't realize the scholarships were rolling. I thought i had read somewhere that you have to interview for it like the first week of classes. did you get the scholarship? I'm really hoping for it b/c otherwise it is a lot of money. I would love to come to the pool party but I live in northern Virginia and my lease in coral gables doesn't start until may 14. i can't wait to start.
