I plan on applying. I recently completed the university application, and I have just a few pre-reqs to finish. I will be taking the TEAS exam in a few months. I really hope I do well enough on everything to get in, but I am going to try not to get my hopes up too much.

what are the pre-req's to get in? thats the program where you get your RN and bsn at the same time right?

The pre-reqs are A & P 1 and 2, Microbiology, Chemistry, Statistics, Intro to Sociology, General Psychology, Nutrition, and Human Development. To be considered for the accelerated program you also must have a bachelor's degree in another field. UCF also offers a traditional BSN program. The RN designation you will have upon licensure, and the BSN is a degree than will enable you to sit for the licensing exam.

I do not know anything specifically about such a program between UCF and VCC, but I thought I read on these boards before that a poster had started taking UCF BSN classes while still at VCC. I have not seen any specific information on either of UCF's or VCC's nursing websites regarding this type of program. I do know that Seminole State College has such a program with UCF.

I'm looking to apply but I don't have my hopes up too much. It is indeed competitive. Last year's entering class had an average GPA of 3.73 ... I went to an info session and the guy presenting basically said that to be considered competitive in the application process you should have an OVERALL GPA (not just prereqs, every undergrad course taken ever) of 3.4, minimum. As for the TEAS, I forgot what the averages were for that, but I do remember that they will accept scores from versions 3.0, 4.0 or V. I know it's a good program and everything but something is bothering me about the whole thing. Thankfully I am applying to other schools :)

I am also going to apply to a few other schools besides UCF. I really do hope UCF works out because I like the Orlando area, but the other schools I am looking at seem to be in decent areas as well. I spoke with an advisor at UCF a few months ago, and she said the TEAS scores are not weighted that heavily in decision making, but I still think it would be a good idea to try to get the highest score possible.

I talked to an advisor today and I basically feel a little discouraged. I think my cum GPA is around a 3.4 and my pre req GPA is about the same and she basically told me that I might not even be competitive. I took the TEAS as well and got a 87.1% which I thought was good, but I guess the average last year was 84% and the average GPA was 3.6 so I kind of feel like it might be a waste of time even applying. I probably will apply anyway, but I am definetly looking into other options. Something about the whole process just seems a little off, but oh well I suppose. I am applying to Remington as well. I can't leave the central FL area so I have to keep my fingers crossed for either UCF or Remington!! :idea:

I think you should still apply. You might always wonder if you might have got in if you don't apply. There is an old thread on these boards from last year's applicants, and some of those who were admitted give their stats. I think I remember at least one of them having a gpa similar to yours. I also got an 87 on my TEAS. I had wanted to do a little better, but I was a little limited in study time because I am also taking chem and stats this semester. I took the online practice test and got an 89, so I was kind of hoping to get at least that on the real test.

I didn't get to study too much either. I am currently finishing my master's degree and also taking my last prereq class all at the same time. So there wasn't much study time left over. I am going to try to apply anyway, and if I don't get into Remington which starts in Jan, I will have a whole semester to try to take some classes over to raise my GPA. Not sure if that would help or not! I have a 3.8 for grad school and the advisor said they won't even look at that! I was thinking about just trying the regular path if I don't get into the accelerated program at Remington or UCF. Not sure what else to do. All of the comm. colleges around here are a nightmare because of waiting lists and such. I have looked at schools like Keiser and Herzing, but I have read some pretty negative stuff and I want to get my MSN after I get my RN, so I am nervous about some of the schools. I was looking into the online ABSN but it isn't accepted in Florida to date, so I'm not sure I would want to travel to do my clinicals. So I am just keeping my fingers crossed to get into Remington or UCF. Good luck to you!! Thanks for the encouragement! :)
