hi everybody!

it may be a bit early to start a thread for a program starting in spring of 2013, but i'm so excited and thought why not! anyways, i was enrolled in the adn program at irsc this past spring, but due to medical reasons, i decided to leave the program. now that i'm getting healthier i decided to get my cna license this fall and re-apply to the adnnursing program that starts spring 2013.

i learned a lot about irsc's nursing program, as well as the nln exam, so if you have any questions feel free to leave a comment because i would love to help out!

good luck to all of you!

I was told that if you are a CNA or MA and you get into the ADN program at irsc then you can skip the fundamentals course as long as you have all the prerequisite completed. Has anyone else heard this?

As per the ADN Handbook, "LPN’s, licensed paramedics and registered respiratory therapists may be eligible for advanced placement". CNA and MA are not considered for advanced palcement. Only the LPN’s, licensed paramedics and registered respiratory therapists will be able to skip the Nursing fundamentals...hope I clarified this for you...good luck to you.

Hello Everyone,

I have also applied for Spring 2013 at IRSC. My fingers are crossed and lots of praying. I scored pretty good (I think) on NLN with 142. I am currently enrolled in Micro, ENC1102, HUN1201, DEP2004, so none of those will count in my composition score. My total score is 200, so I know I probably won't make it for Spring, but figured why not give it a shot.

Good Luck to Everyone!

Hi reg4fun69

Congratulations on such a good score for the NLN, you scored in the 97th percentile. Though you may not have completed your prerequisites your chances of getting in to the program is dependent on how well the overall nursing applicants performed. Do not give up hope you may have a chance. I wish you all the best in your future classes.;)

Thanks Bizzimommee for the encouragement! Good Luck to you as well. This process is definitely nerve racking to say the least.

Does anyone know exactly how the health science application status works? When I check my status it doesn't show any points yet. I was told that they hand enter the information as they go over each applications, so it is normal that none of my points are there yet. I just wanted to double check this.

reg4fun69, I checked on mine and all the points are updated. I have heard that they do do it manually and it takes some time, I have also heard some people say they have called in if they have not seen the update to check the status...keep checking over the course of the next couple of days and see if it gets updated. You can always call if you do not see it updated. I know this is all nerve wrecking but look at the bright side you did the nln, you did well so that the best that you can do. I heard them say at the nursing information session that they choose the people who have completed all prereq only because it can get rather difficult if you get accepted into the program and you have to do the core classes, plus you may be assigned at a houspital for some 10 hours. To find time to complete all prereqs while in the program they say is very difficult...all the best!

What I can't understand is why it takes so long. How can they be entering the information by hand if they already have the grades online on our transcripts? There must be a way to pull those. Seems to me the only thing they would have to enter by hand would be the nln scores. I don't know if it's my anxiety that is making me inpatient but who else is willing to help them get done early??? Lol!!!! Weeks can't go by fast enough!

Etjvn723, I dont think they are entering all grades manually, it is only the NLN score that they have to enter manually. I dont know if this is a rumor or not but it is said that about 500 people apply so it may take them a minute to update all records. There are so many rumors surrounding the nursing program that you cant tell what is true and what is not. For example, only people with 4.0 GPA and and perfect NLN scores get in the program. I wasn't nervous before the exam but now the wait is killing me, guess we have about 4 more weeks to go before we know...good luck and I hope you get in...

I called today because I was concerned that when checking my application status it only showed by fees paid and didn't calculate any of my pre-req. Thank God, I called. They didn't have me on the list. There was a glitch in the system when I applied which was 06/01 and they had to fix the system and changed the date to 08/01 when they started accepting applications. I didn't know because I applied the day I was told by the Okeechobee campus and it went through and never gave it another thought.

Anyway, I was told that they would fix it and it was a good thing I called or I wouldn't have been included. I asked how many applicants there were and they only would tell me they had hundreds of applications and only accept 70. So, I wish you all good luck its going to be a loooong 4 weeks!

So true reg4fun69 these things you have to stay on top of or simple mistakes might make you fall through the cracks. Gosh hundreds makes it sould like more than a thousand...now am nervous...I wish you all the best again can't wait for the 4 weeks to run by...

Thank you all for sharing your experiences and thoughts. I am hoping to have prereq's done to apply next fall and all of this information is good preparation for getting the best grades possible on the nln and classes, and having lots of patience through the acceptance process, lol! Thanks again!

JDsGirl, try to do your best in your pre reqs so you can get the maximum points. I went to the nursing information session prior to taking the nln and they stated that it is best to finish all pre reqs before applying into the program. They stated that is highly unlikely that someone would get into the program with incomplete pre reqs due to the fact that the rn classes have prerequisites of the classes taken prior to getting into the program. Additionally to prepare for the nln do some physics review and biology review as there many questions on theses subject areas....A wish you all the best and hope you get in the program when you apply...
