2013 UF Accelerated BSN Applicants!

U.S.A. Florida

HiEveryone!

I am gatorguy3380, and I am planning on applying to the UF Accelerated BSNprogram beginning in 2013! I have been steadily working my way through my prerequisites and am studying for my GRE as we speak. I have been eyeing thisprogram for a while and have found that this thread is a great way to shareexpectations and successes for those pursuing entrance into this prestigiousprogram.

So it seems like everyone on here likes to know each other's "stats."So since I seem to be the originator here you go! I have a BS from FlaglerCollege in St. Augustine that I received 6 years ago. My GPA from my last 60was 3.55. I have completed Human Nutrition, Statistics, Human Growth andDevelopment, and A&P 1, all with A's. My overall college GPA is just a hairover a 3.0. I am currently in Micro and plan on taking A&P II in the springjust prior to admission. I am 32, a male, and used to be a law enforcementofficer. I feel that with a combination of my academics and my personalexperiences, with a solid GRE score (which I haven't taken yet) and stay ontrack with my pre-reqs I stand a good chance of getting in!

Just because I posted my info, there is no need to post yours. I like the ideaof meeting some of my future cohorts on this life course change and createdthis tread so that we could all find a sense of comfort in a tiny sharedcommunity! Good luck to all and I will enjoy interacting with you here!

Hi everyone!

I also applied. My previous Bachelors is in Spanish. I am hopeful, since I have a tremendous passion for nursing and have worked so hard, but Im also very nervous, like everyone else Im sure! I just finished my prereqs this semester, after a year and a half of working towards this moment. Im curious when we might find out...any ideas?

gatorguy-i think we were in the same Micro class?

:)

Well I turned in my packet on Friday... that was definitely an uneasy feeling knowing that I literally can do nothing more to get into the program. Now my fate essentially rests on how I stack up to the rest of the candidates. Good luck to everyone here, I am sure that many of you are feeling the same way!

From reading many of the other posts from past years, it seems as if the UF selection process looks at more than just your quantitative scores. I have seen many applicants alleging that they had very high scores (GPA, GRE, Masters degrees) and still not gain admission. I think for those us with diverse backgrounds, this can only help. When I spoke with the administrator who accepted my application packet, she told me that they expect to have decisions by late March or April. Has anyone heard anything else different?

Also since the program begins in the summer, I am assuming that May 13th would be our start date. If anyone has heard anything different, please let me know.

Just one more question, does anyone know if there is a way to check and see if UF has received our post bac application and transcripts The admin person at CON told me that I could check it through ISIS, any thoughts?

Joy 157847, I think we were too. Did your term end the way you wanted it to?

Hey Gatorguy, not as great as I hoped, but still okay. I also brought one part of my application in person, as the first one must of got lost in the mail because it never arrived. Im surprised they said we may not know until April...it seemed from past forums on allnurses that they've found out 2 months later or less. I guess that makes sense for finding out in March though, taking into account the holiday break coming up. Well, now we wait. Best wishes to everyone in this process!

Hey you all there was a hold on my ISIS from the CON does anyone know what that could mean?????

Best of luck to everyone! I also applied to the program and am very hopeful, but I suppose we'll see how it goes.

Hey everyone! Just wanted to update that I emailed ********* about when we might hear decisions...he said they are working toward getting them out the end of February. VERY exciting to think we may know next month! :)

That is great joy! Did he give any reason for the change? Maybe a smaller applicant pool???

Gatorguy, he didn't say. Its so quiet on here though! A big difference from years past...but who knows, that could mean anything I guess.

Hey Everyone,

First time poster, long time lurker. lol I have been watching this thread for awhile and I thought I would join in. It really is so quiet on here compared to years past. I also applied to this program. I wasn't planning on applying for this year, but I was laid off last summer and that allowed me to take most of my prerequisites early. I am currently enrolled in microbiology. So I'm a year ahead of where I thought I would be and I couldn't be more excited! All my eggs are in one basket this year with UF as my numero uno. My husband graduated from this program a few years ago and he loved it. He has proctored some students during their practicum in the Jacksonville area. He couldn't believe the difference in how prepared his UF student was compared to the other student nurses getting ready to graduate. I want to know now. haha :woot: I am horrible at waiting. I hope they tell us in February. Since I am only in one class this semester, I have a lot of free time on my hands and that has seemed to make this waiting worst. I am use to having a very full schedule with very little free time. So I have found myself looking over the syllabi for the classes in the first semester. My husband still has all his old books so I have started reviewing material. I figured it will help me regardless when or where I get in. haha I am also planning on volunteering at a hospital. If I don't make it this year then I am sure this will help me next year. Currently, I have no medical experience unless you want to count helping my husband study. haha If only knowledge by osmosis was possible. That makes me a little nervous as well as having micro in progress. I meet all the requirements… I have a BFA and a 3.77 gpa. I have a 4.0 gpa in my prerequisites and my GRE stands at 154 verbal and 151 quantitative. I wish I was a little higher in everything, but fingers crossed. When I emailed CON last year with my stats asking if there was anything I could do to increase my competitiveness for acceptance I was told "As for your academics, tests scores, degree and grades you're doing fine. It is a competitive program but you are meeting the requirements so that's good." I am hoping that I can get into UF for my BSN and then have a shot at going to UF for my DNP. But one step at a time, right? lol :)

Hello all...Well, it is Feb. 1st...one more month!

nettegator where can i find the old class syllabus?

you can find it at the following linkhttp://nursing.ufl.edu/students/course-outlines/I was thinking about shadowing some RN's. Has anyone done this? If so was it someone that you knew already or did you contact a hospital and they got you in contact with someone who would be willing to let you shadow?
