Florida nursing student hoping to end up in ny

Hello. I am working on my associates, and will get my bachelors before even thinking about moving to ny. However, when I apply for my license, should I apply for NY, keep renewing it, and apply for a Florida one after? Can you hold more than one license at once? I've just heard that it's difficult to transfer another states license into a NY one, but I need experience before trying to move and get a job up there. So I figured I could get both, can I do this? Thanks.

You cannot "transfer" a license, but you can apply by endorsement when you have a lisence in another state. There is no benefit to obtaining a license in a state that you don't plan to work in.

From what I hear, New York is tough market, though. It might be better to get you BSN and a year or two of experience at home before attempting the move.

It is best to graduate (ASN), take NCLEX, and get a Florida license. Work in Florida while getting your BSN. Waiting to take NCLEX until after your BSN would put you at a big disadvantage. Your BSN classes will not help you retain the information from your ASN when it comes time to take NCLEX. Additionally, getting experience before moving to NY is essential.
