Florida IPN - Released to work

Nurses Recovery

Published

Hi everyone! So, I finally got released to go work. I am in IPN in florida. I have been through hurdles to get this clearance (as many have that are in recovery/monitoring,) and am very eager to return to work. I have been filling out many apps and submitting resumes. Quick backstory: I have a gap in my employment as I had to wait for a very long time to get everything done (evaluations, waiting for response from board, etc etc,) My case is a weird one: I have never had any issues while working as a nurse. In fact, I am a new nurse. I graduated nursing school in missouri, then moved to FL. Applied to take NCLEX and they told me I needed to go in front of board, since I answered truthfully about being in recovery. They approved me to take NCLEX, provided I go to IPN. (Essentially I was participating in IPN before I was even licensed.) They gave me a 5 year contract. Long story short, I took boards and passed, and I now have a FL license. I do not have a narcotics restriction, but I cannot work home health, over times or float.

My question: At what point do I inform the prospective employer that I am in IPN? I have not been putting it on applications. Do I wait and tell them after the interview before I leave? I am aware IPN participation is a red flag to many but I do not give up easily. I am willing to be humble and honest, and let them know that I do have a past, but I am no longer that person. If anyone takes a chance on me, they won't regret it. I just want to work and I am so unsure of when/how to broach subject.

I have had several call backs and have two interviews monday.

Thanks in advance :)

Good luck Friday with your second interview. I suggest that you go ahead and ask to leave early on the days you have support groups meeting, if the job is meant to be for you they will say yes. I asked to leave early on the days I have meetings and my future employer said yes.

Thanks for the suggestion! I am just so nervous since its one hour a week :( I feel like that is asking so much.

I am just gonna let them know, and like you said, if its meant for me they will say yes. If not.. back on the hunt! thanks :)

I appreciate all of the support you guys have given me, Thank you, really :)

Thank you guys so much! I saw the email notifications of your posts on the way to the interview. It really make me smile and much needed right before interviewing.

So, I ended up texting my group leader on a whim, just to see if there were any other group options as to not interrupt my work time. And guess what?? I was given an option of 5:45 instead! Perfect!

Moving on... I went to my second interview today and I am confused now :( The first one I went to was freaking amazing! We had almost two hours and an awesome interview and conversation. After that, about an hour later, she called and asked if I could come back for a second interview with her boss. I got the impression that they were really liking me. I go to the second interview today and it lasted like 5 minutes. The lady barely asked me anything at all. Then told me that Id know something next week sometime and that they had a few internal interviews to get through and then they'd made a decision. I feel bummed because I just don't think it went well. uhhhhh.

I am trying to be positive .. only time will tell.

Ill let you know what I hear :) Thanks again for the support, I truly appreciate it.

Well guys, I got an email saying that I didn't get the position.

Its so odd. Everything went great..I honestly think it was the second interview lady that must of not liked the IPN thing.

I am so annoyed at them.

Oh well.. I guess it just wasn't the job for me.

It wasn't paying that much anyway.. so On the next. I am hoping to get an exemption letter soon so I can go back to the LTC place that was gonna hire me on the spot until that came up.

I also have a phone interview in a few minutes.. (Is this normal?) Never had one of those before. Anyway, waiting on the lady to call at 3:30 and then maybe they will bring me in for an interview? This is another LTC place.. so Id have to have exemption letter here pretty quick.

Hope everyone is doing ok. Love to all

Sorry you didn't get it. Keep looking, interviewing and moving. Movement is the key.

I am keeping you in my thoughts and am going to light a candle for you...

Well, I got more bad news yesterday. I had applied for the exemption. and I was denied. I am not allowed an exemption until MAY 2018. Their reasoning is because I have not been off of probation long enough. THE VERY SAME PEOPLE THAT GAVE ME NURSING LICENSE are now telling me that I cannot get an exemption due the the very same criminal history that they reviewed and approved me to get a license. The very same criminal history that they used as a reasoning to put me in IPN! Now they are saying I cannot get an exemption. This is a crime that was committed in 2009. I was given SIS probation, which in missouri means that after you complete it, the conviction goes away and the case is closed/sealed. I am not a convicted felon.

I am beside myself. I have spent thousands on tests/evaluations/groups/meetings/drug tests/trips to see the board. All of this, to have yet another hurdle placed. I cannot work anywhere that is associated with ACHA.

I am so close to giving up. I can't believe this is being done to me.

Somebody tell me something positive. Please. Im struggling here.

Don't give up. Those people aren't worth giving up over.

Just spoke to a lawyer that deals with this.

he completely understands my situation, and he can interpret my 2009 case. He said that sometimes you need a lawyer to get involved to help get the exemption in the more complex cases, as the people who are denying my application are not lawyers. He will petition them to reconsider, using my court documents and explanation of missouri law. He will speak to the board attorney. If needed, we will go in front of the board for a hearing.

This would be the second time I am going in front of the board for the SAME criminal history. Ironic, I guess.

Ill keep y'all updated.

Hi guys... I am writing with GOOD NEWS!

So, I waited on signed the retainer agreement with the attorney and I managed to get the court to write a letter explaining the type of probation and that I was never convicted. I emailed the documents to the board and I was granted the exemption yesterday!!!!

I am happy ! I honestly thought Id never get it.. and here I am, and I didn't have to pay the $1,500 retainer plus $220 an hour to an attorney to get it done!

I have an interview today at 2pm, and then I have to go back and see the lady that offered me a job originally (that started this whole thing,) tomorrow.. she wants me to bring her the exemption letter and hopefully we can move forward.

I also got a call back for a dialysis position!

I am so hopeful and grateful right now.

I sent the lady at the court clerks office a Thank you card because she really went out of her way to write that letter for me! :)
