Florida Endorsement License

Published

Hi all,

I got my California license 2009 and have been working for a year. I would like to move to Florida, more specifically to a VA hospital and am beginning the process of license endorsement to obtain a FL license. I noticed that Florida has a CEU requirement for Reducing Medical Errors. Does anyone know if I am supposed to take this course and apply it to my California license or wait until I receive my Florida license before taking the course? Also, does anyone know the current Florida environment for job availability, or have any experience getting hired into a VA hospital? Any response would be great!

Thanks!

You must have the CEU before Florida will issue you a license.

I'm not familiar with the VA hospitals, but pretty much everywhere else sucks in terms of finding a job. Don't move until you have an offer in writing.

Very good advice. I work in private home care nursing. LPN's make $15 an hour and RN's make $18 an hour here in Florida.:crying2:

Specializes in Legal, Ortho, Rehab.

An experienced RN here in the hospital esp the VA should be $50k or more a year. Any less than that you're getting played. Don't expect CA rates though...

Specializes in Maternal - Child Health.

If you are certain that you will be working in a VA facility, it is not necessary to endorse your license.

Nurses working in federal facilities in the U.S. or overseas (military or VA) do not need to be licensed in the state in which they work. For federal facilities, a license from any U.S. state or territory is accepted.

Thanks all,

Good to know. Now for the job search part.

Good luck with getting a job with the VA. I remember people on this site saying it was a big hassle to try to get a job with the VA. They said there was so much paperwork to be done first and then they had to wait and wait before they could get an actual interview scheduled.

What part of Fl. because I have been reading under different sites and getting different pay rates.

Thanks for all the advice. I guess it makes sense to get to FL via any hospital then start shooting for the VA while in state. I'll keep my eyes open for both. Since I'm aiming for the VA, I'd like to wind up in Tampa, Pensacola, Miami, and might even settle for Lake City. I hear a hospital is being built in Orlando too, so that's not completely out of the question.

Pay is not as important to me because I'm from Florida so I'll be saving money on vacations back home for family visits ha ha I'm used to the low salaries, but also low cost of living and no state tax is a nice bonus.

Thanks for all the input!

Hi all,

I have few questions here about endorsement from Illinois to Florida. I am ere and Fl and want to work here.. Can Illinois-RN (just got my passing letter, applying for license card and not practicing yet) have the endorsement without practicing in Illinois?? I have endorsement application packet for Florida and I've seen this, " Has actively practiced nursing in another state, jurisdiction, or territory of the United States for 2 of the

preceding 3 years without having his or her license acted against by the licensing authority of any jurisdiction.

Applicants who become licensed pursuant to this paragraph must complete within 6 months after licensure a

Florida laws and rules course that is approved by the board." does it mean I really have to practice in IL??

What is the best thing that I should do to have it done all done?? Please help me..

Thank you & God Bless.
