Anyone have any experience, good or bad, with those agencies in California? This will be my first time traveling, and all the posts that I've searched for are a couple of years old. Any experience and opinions would be appreciated!

i have only heard good things about Valley Healthcare. That doesnt mean much these days though. Go with the recruiter that is the best at working for you.

Valley very good and ethical. Flexcare has been getting a lot of good press lately, but had a poor reputation historically, much of it perhaps coming from its per diem business.
Not that it matters much. The relationship you have with a recruiter is far more important than the agency brand. I'd recommend talking to many agencies and picking the best five recruiters to work further with.
