Flashcards

I hate them. As much as its key tool for so many people I actually cannot bring myself to study with them. According to VARK I am at least 50% read/write and writing them out helps a little but I hate reviewing them. The only flash cards I have used successfully are the ones I created for the histology part of lab, pictures of the types of tissues on the front, and on the back function & location.

I see a word, I can explain what it looks like, how it works, and how it relates to other things but for the life of me giving a straight definition annoys me. LOL. I guess its a good problem to have.

Have you looked at any flash card/study apps? For me they're more convenient and I'm more apt to study with them.

Flashcards were a big necessity for me in Nursing school. I guess everyone's different. It was very time consuming, but once I had everything on the flashcards, I reviewed them over and over until it was exam time. It helped me A LOT.

Once I get into nursing school I think it *may* become more of a necessity because there is so much information. And online flashcards annoy me even more than handwritten ones, I tried Quizlet and the ones that come with some of my textbooks. If I have to use them I prefer handwritten ones (I also absorb information more readily when I hand-write things vs typing them)

Flashcards are my main way of studying. I also found that handwriting them was helpful to me but during anatomy and physiology last semester I started doing a two column excel spreadsheet to cut down on time I was spending writing them out. so I can cover the answer column if I'm studying by myself, but I typically prefer to have my husband quiz me. Something about having to say my answer out loud to someone else helps it stick in my brain better, and also for the ones I don't get right, if I hear him tell me the answer I remember it better next time vs when I am just reading it myself because my brain tends to run VERY FAST and I skip words or lines no matter how hard I try and slow down (this is an issue for me on tests as well).
