FIU Fall 2016 Generic BSN

Published

Hey guys! Is anyone here applying for the Generic BSN program for Fall 2016? I couldn't find any topics for it.

I'm in the process of applying right now and I just took the TEAS V today! I'm content with my score, but I may retake it. I hope that with my TEAS V score, my GPA, and my extracurricular activities combined that have a good chance of getting accepted into the program!

My stats are:

Science GPA: 4.0

GPA: 3.96

TEAS V Cumulative score: 79.3% :(

Reading portion: 83.3% unfortunately I ran out time on this one and had to blindly guess on two questions!

Math portion: 66.7% such a bad score for me! I had to guess on like 5 questions because I wasn't keeping track of time!

Science: 81.3% I'm so relieved with this score. I was so scared that I wouldn't pass the 62% mark. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be!

English and Grammar: 83.3 % It was an okay section, a couple of tricky questions. I had like 3 questions on how a word is spelled correctly and those get confusing when two of them look like the right answer!

I would love to hear from anyone else who is also applying for the Fall 2016!

Ayyy that's awesome congrats!! I found the TEAS science section WAYY harder than I expected; the ATI definitely didn't prepare me for that, but it's a lot to cover, I suppose...

I've got

Science GPA: 4.0

GPA: 3.86ish, still have this semester to bump that up

TEAS V Cumulative score: 89.3%

but I've only got like 240 hours of volunteer

and that stupid video essay may very well be the death of me. Have you started on it yet?

You have such a great Teas v score! You won't have a problem getting in. I also have about 240 volunteer hours, I hope that counts for something :/

and no I haven't started the video yet. I need to get on that soon with the deadline quickly approaching!

Thanks yours is good too! I believe that they don't just look at the comprehensive score, but also the Science section of the test, above all the other sections, so it's definitely a plus you got such a high score on that part of the test.

But yeah I hope the hours count for something, even though they aren't like the 500 I hear others gave. I know how much nursing programs lean towards experience over grades at times, but hopefully we're a shoe in :D You planning on retaking the TEAS?

I don't know if I'm gonna retake it yet :sorry: I really don't want to take that test again but I also want to improve my math score lol

I've been reading past forums here for the FIU BSN program like crazy, and I've read some ones that would get accepted with no volunteer hours so I wouldn't worry too much about it! :)

Hey guys, awesome stats! I'm also applying for Fall 2016. My stats are:

Cumulative GPA: 3.86 (hoping to pull that up by the end of the spring semester)

Science GPA: 3.94

TEAS 1st time: Overall: 79.3 Science: 83.3

2nd time: Overall: 82.0 Science: 85.4

But I have no experience and haven't completed the video yet.

You have great stats too @NomadTraveler ! I'm positive we will all get in! Have you started your video yet?

Just handed in my application :scrying:

Being the procrastinating little turd that I am I shot, edited, and posted the video essay just this morning. It came out as cheesy as a nursing video essay can come out, but at least its done. How are you guys going so far @suzettess @nomadtraveler?

I turned in my application by hand last Friday! Lol I feel like my video is super cheesy too. I can't believe we'll probably have to wait till May to find out whether we got in or not :(

Right?! It's gonna be a long couple months...

Seriously applying was crunch time for me between work, taking the last two classes, studying for the teas and volunteering. I mailed my application out last week and the school verified they received it exactly on the 15th. I am so glad I found this thread because I am feeling just as nervous! The video essay took me forever to do and I still feel as if it was kinda cheesy lol. I had to fit it in under 3 minutes so I have to edit a lot out near the end but i felt I got to say enough I wanted in that time. I felt I couldve done better on the TEAS:

Cumulative: 76.7

Reading - 73.8

Math - 60.0

Science - 89.6

English/Grammar - 80

LOL I dont know what happened with the math portion yall! i tell you I even felt the most confident on it and it was my worst score and my cumulative could have been so much higher if it wasnt for that but i didnt have the time to retake it again. My science score is super high so im hoping it is enough. My overall GPA is a 3.82 and I have about 500 volunteer hours. It is all in the waiting game now. I heard we would not be getting a response until the end of May or early June..... Good luck to everyone!! Let's keep this thread alive on updates.

@faerytinkerbelle Your TEAS science score is great! and those volunteer hours are definitely going to help you! I wish I did better on the math portion too. I had so much anxiety during the test that I couldn't even do basic math operations :scrying: lol

How did you get confirmation that they received your application? through email?

Also, are you guys applying to any other nursing schools? I'm also applying to Nova too. Hopefully I would get into FIU because Nova is ridiculously expensive and the program takes longer!
