I just wanted to start a thread for those interested in FIU's BSN-DNP route. Deadlines are March (for Fall 2020) and August (for Spring 2021)

For me, I am very interested in their pediatric specialty. I am just beginning to look up information and would love to hear everyones experiences with applications.

Currently I am finishing my BSN (finishes in Aug 2020)... and wondering if I would even be able to apply to any of the upcoming start dates.

Hey there! Did you ever turn in your application?

I applied to the adult gerontology specialty. They said invites to interviews will be sent out in early April. Fingers crossed.

I have 2 years of step down nursing. ABSN GPA was 3.35. Not awful, but not great. Hopefully other parts of my application make up for what is lacking. I have a couple of Scholarships, honors, and a certification under my belt.

Wishing everyone the best.

Hello!

Did you decide to go through with the application process?

I just found out that I was accepted into their BSN-DNP program with my specialty being in pediatrics. I'm so excited! Did you receive any information regarding orientation from Nancy? I am still waiting to hear back from her.

Hello everyone. For those that were accepted CONGRATS! Would you be able to say what type of interview questions were asked and how the process went? I’m about to get all my things ready to apply and want to know what to expect. Thank you!

During my interview, I was asked

1) tell me about yourself

2) why did you choose FIU?

3) what leadership roles have you participate in at work?

4) how have you prepared yourself for this program?

5) one clincal question ( questions vary depending on what specialty you will be applying for)

During the interview process, the faculty has already reviewed your credentials prior to selecting you and are definitely interested! This is the time for them to get to know your personality, so be yourself and leave a good impression.

Tips:

-Make sure to ask follow up questions at the end. Don’t ask questions that can be easily looked up in there website.

Good Luck!

Hello! Anyone apply for the Spring term 2021 and heard back for an interview?

Hi! Yes I myself just applied for the pediatric DNP Spring term 2021. Have not heard anything back. NursingCAS still only says "received". I emailed the coordinator to check in on status today. I know with the pandemic and influx of applications things must be busier for them.

@Nurse.Kelsey thank you for replying! Not sure if anyone would LOL so I too emailed the coordinator and they emailed saying between September and early October we should get some feedback. I know that the application closed August 15th so I was expecting to hear back sooner rather than later but I guess it’s all a waiting game now.

@Future_DNP2020 Yes! In the info session they said they will do calls for interviews mid/late September. Maybe we could start hearing back starting next week... I will let you know if my email says anything different. I am applying for peds, what about you?

@Nurse.Kelsey crossing fingers to hopefully hearing something next week. I’m applying to adult geri.
