FIU ABSN 2019

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi everyone. I have not seen a thread for FIU's ABSN 2018-2019 program so I figured I would start one. If anyone wants to share their stats/ volunteer history please do!

Hoping all applicants could get to know each other prior to the start of the program and we can start a facebook group upon acceptance.

I applied last week so fingers crossed.

Good luck everyone!

Overall and prereq GPA: 3.46

Teas: 92.7

I have a LOR for work experience but could not submit my volunteer hours.

I currently volunteer in Neuro at Children's.

Hi! I'm wondering how those of you who are enrolled in the FIU AOBSN program feel about the program so far? @Veenusasagirl @catek @gabs1103

I've submitted my application for Spring 2020 and am anxiously awaiting an admissions decision! Any info you can share regarding your experience in the program would be appreciated!

Thanks!

andrea

Hi Andrea,

So far, we have had a few ups and downs, but I definitely recommend the program. You will get out what you put into it. It is a FAST program, and if you do not like to be rushed or overloaded with work, it isn't the route to take. If you need to work, it is not the route to take. If you can dedicate a year to nothing but school, go for it. For me, it worked because I learn by immersion. I do nothing but school work, and I'm okay with that because I can have fun when I have a job and money again :). I have heard that they might be changing the program up a bit from some suggestions we made, but I'm not 100%. Let us know if you get in, and I can send you some more specific pointers to share with your cohort - your new family for the year. Our program went like this:

Miniterm Fundamentals Class- 9 days during December (before Christmas) Monday - Friday 8 - 5

Spring - Class 2 days a week from 8 - 6:30 and 9 - 7:40; Clinicals 1 day from 7 - 2

Summer - Class 2 days a week from 9 - 3:30 and 11 - 1:30; Clinicals 3 days a week from 6:30 - 3:30

Fall - not sure yet

Let me know if you have any other questions!

Thank you @catek! I'm definitely ready to knuckle down and put in the work, and won't be trying to work a job at the same time. One change I know of already is that they'll be starting in late October instead of December, which I don't love, but so be it. Great job on your success so far! Great to know that you recommend the program. Hopefully I'll be in touch with more questions once I get some good news regarding admission ?

@Drea824 Hello there, just curious if you have applied to any other programs. I chose to go with the accelerated program because I wanted to limit my time where I had no income since I’m not working right now. But if that weren’t as big of an issue I think I would have gone with a program that wasn’t accelerated. Mainly because it’s so much information to learn and the experience on the floor is limited because of the length of the program. That being said, we haven’t had our practice yet so I’m hoping that will help with experience. But am I glad I am a part of this program? Yes.

@Veenusasagirl thank you! What you’re saying totally makes sense. Unfortunately I’m in the same boat as you in the sense that I really can’t be out of work for more than a year or so if at all possible. I’m a little worried about finding a job quickly after completing the program, but people are advising to start the search early on, so I will definitely do that. I’m trying to let go and trust the process, but I must admit it’s a bit scary! I wish you the best with the rest of the program and thank you for taking the time to respond!

Hey guys, is anyone selling their books or willing to donate ebooks to the upcoming class ?? ?????? Thank you !

Could someone from this cohort tell me about how much you’ve spent in books/tuition/supplies?
