  1. Hi Andrea, So far, we have had a few ups and downs, but I definitely recommend the program. You will get out what you put into it. It is a FAST program, and if you do not like to be rushed or overloaded with work, it isn't the route to take. If you need to work, it is not the route to take. If you can dedicate a year to nothing but school, go for it. For me, it worked because I learn by immersion. I do nothing but school work, and I'm okay with that because I can have fun when I have a job and money again :). I have heard that they might be changing the program up a bit from some suggestions we made, but I'm not 100%. Let us know if you get in, and I can send you some more specific pointers to share with your cohort - your new family for the year. Our program went like this: Miniterm Fundamentals Class- 9 days during December (before Christmas) Monday - Friday 8 - 5 Spring - Class 2 days a week from 8 - 6:30 and 9 - 7:40; Clinicals 1 day from 7 - 2 Summer - Class 2 days a week from 9 - 3:30 and 11 - 1:30; Clinicals 3 days a week from 6:30 - 3:30 Fall - not sure yet Let me know if you have any other questions!
  2. It's not over yet! There are other people trying to make the decision between one school and another. I wouldn't give up hope! Fingers crossed for you!
  3. I think I've made my decision to go to FIU. Trying to figure out the best way to let UM know. I PMed you with my e-mail address if you want to communicate directly. I'd love to get to know everyone before we start, maybe through a Facebook group. Have you seen or heard from anyone else who was accepted?
  4. Hey! Just got a letter of acceptance from FIU. Have you thought anymore on your decision? I am struggling between the two as well. Everyone is saying the 40k isn't worth it, but that simulation hospital seemed like a great learning environment. Very hard to decide right now
  5. I received an e-mail yesterday - interviews are on October 8th. Very excited/nervous and can't wait to meet you all! I did think the email subject line was a bit misleading, and I thought I didn't get in when I read the first few lines.
  6. I was accepted into the spring 2019 ABSN program and would love some information on it as well. I have a weekend job that allows me to study, I just have to sit at a desk. Will I be able to keep it, or are there clinicals on the weekends? Any information would be extremely helpful.
  7. I took mine online through FIU - signed up as a non-degree and it was a good course. Just be prepared for a lot of reading :)
  8. I was accepted too! I called yesterday regarding the deposit to be sent and they said the acceptance letters we received were from the university, and SONHS will be sending letters out today. I got a vague answer about the check - did anyone send anything along with the check? I put my cane ID on it, but it feels strange just sending a check without anything attached to it. I am sending it priority with a tracking number. mpeter0124 , i'll be sending you a request for the Facebook page - Cate Kelliher.
  9. I applied to both. FIU is a lot cheaper. I am really hoping I get into either one - they are the only two places I applied. If I get into both, I have no idea what I will do. We wont find out about the interview for FIU until September, from what I've been told by their advisers. Even though UM is so much more expensive, the simulation hospital is amazing, and I do feel like the program might be better, but it is hard to tell. I found a thread from last year, and this guy - GramStain ( https://allnurses.com/member-1196149/posts.html ) is very helpful. He was accepted to both FIU and UM and ended up going to FIU. He seems to be very happy there. I'd love to hear your thoughts as well.
  10. Now that the applications are submitted, does anyone know if we should expect to receive confirmations or anything from FIU anytime soon? I'm nervous now that the deadline has passed.
  11. It does, I couldn't find the admissions section, finally found it! Now I feel better that I at least have a section. I hope I'll be in the next round!
  12. I submitted 6/27, was verified 7/3, but haven't seen anything for "admissions" show on my Canelink yet.
  13. I finally submitted my application Wednesday, I have been holding off because I am nervous about the required deposit. I've done a lot of research on financing for a second degree, but has anyone settled on what they believe is the best loan option yet?
  14. Did you submit the TEAS? I know FIU required it, I am applying there as well. I wasn't sure about submitting it to UM since it isn't required.
  15. I think the UM Accelerated Option Deadline is August 1, at least that's what nursing CAS says. You can still apply!
