First Year Nurses, what footwear do you swear by?

Published

Hey everyone,

I just have to say, these 12 hour shifts are killing me, my feet and lower legs hurt soooo much after work...OH yeah, let's not forget the dreadful backpain :selfbonk:. Well, I posted this thread just to get an idea of what type of footwear you guys are wearing at work. Also, are your shoes comfortable? What's the name, price, how long have you been using them, and where can I find them (web or not)?

Thanks Much!!!

some of the "older" nurses i have known have raved about sas shoes.
well, i'm a "younger" nurse who loves sas shoes. they are very expensive at $115 per pair, but they also work well for my short and plump feet.

I like crocs. Sometimes I work 4 day 12 hours. My feet and legs never hurt. If you have a store called Shoe Station where you live, they sell a brand called Quarx, they are very inexpensive (39.99) and comfortable.

Hello, well, I have gone through so many types of shoes it is unreal, now I am older and .....finally found a pair of shoes that don't hurt my feet, but I don't work in the hospital. I wear a clog made by Privo, a division of Clarks. It's a driving clog. And I wear compression socks. I am a new HH nurse, and I walk, bend, squat, and drive a lot! Best advice, try on lots of different shoes, late in the day, when your feet are tired, and possibly swollen, and try the light compression socks or hose, whichever you prefer? I like socks, but my legs only swell below the knees. I also have extremely WIDE feet, lol, good luck.:wink2:

Hey, for you Dansko wearers out there, they have a website with their "seconds." It's www.danskooutlet.com. I have ordered from this site in the past, and loved everything I got from them.:wink2:

I love New Balance ! They are wonderful escpecially the light ones i NB 442. I love them!

I used to prefer Z-Coils with custom arch supports, but I now prefer Bastad / Troentorp with Dr. Scholl's gel insoles (I get them a half-size too big so the insoles fit).

You can get them via Shoebuy.com (order a couple sizes and send back the ones that don't fit). You can also try to get a discount coupon for Shoebuy. For additional info on the shoes, see swedishcomfort.com, the manufacturer. (I called the manufacturer and they recommended a larger size for closed-back shoes and a smaller size for open-backed shoes.)

I feel these shoes have better arch supports than Dansko's. I also think they are better made.

Thanks for the note--shoebuy actually has 20% off today, so those Bastads are under $100.

Enter 2009 as your coupon code. I like Danskos, but I'm going to try a pair at this price. They also have free return shipping if you don't like them. Can't get much easier than that!

Birkenstocks.

I can't wear Crocs because they don't have enough support, I begin to get plantar fasciitis with them, and they cause the dreaded Croc Stop, wherein one just - trips because the toe of the shoe catches the floor.

And I can't wear clogs or most shoes because then my toes smoosh forward and I get horrid metatarsal pain.

Birkenstocks, baby!

1studentnurse - it took me three 12-hour shifts to break in the Bastad clogs. At first, I was very worried that they weren't going to work out. Now, they are very comfy.

Adidas Barricade V... I will only wear Adidas to work, it's the most comfortable brand I've found.

I wear dansko backless clogs I used them for a yr and my back has felt great. I also now have a pair of MBT They arre expensive but if you shop around you can find good deals. They take a few shifts to get used to but are great I have had a few co workers try them on and they have goneout and gotten them as well. They are kinda ugly!! people notice them!

I was very reluctant to try Dansko's and at first they felt clunky and huge on my little feet. However, because I read good reviews about them on the internet, I decided to purchase a pair. I am so glad that I did. My feet never get tired during my shift! I was so amazed because usually, my feet start to hurt very quickly! Be careful though with ones you order through their website, I received one where the staples on the shoe were not lined up and the leather was coming off! They are hand made so I have learned to purchase them locally so I can try them on and inspect them first. But overall, they are an excellent shoe. After the 1st week of wearing them, you will get use to them and love them! I now have 4 pairs in different colors!
