NEW GRAD, somebody's gotta give me chance!!!!!!!!!!!

Nurses New Nurse

Hey guys,

I passed my NCLEX and have been applying for jobs but they always require some experince. How can I have experince if nobody gives a job:confused: sad.png I have to start somewhere!! On top of that I've only had 2 insignificant jobs my entire life, one in high school, the other in 2009. I haven't worked ever since. I know I am only 22 but it is so frustrating. Not to mention that I've an Associates not a BSN but first I need a job to help me pay for my BSN next year. I understand that very soon all RNs will be required to have a BSN and I wanna go as far as my PhD but my priority right now is to find a job!!

Please let me know of any graduate nurse positions in New Jersey

Thank you

If you don't have any previous experience in a hospital and don't know anyone who could help you out, I would recommend that you apply at the hospitals that you had clinical. Most places like that will remember you and might give you a chance. Good Luck!

I was in pretty much the exact same situation. Only had a couple rather unimpressive jobs in the past and had not worked in a while. I have an Associates and a lot of places want experience or just wouldn't give me a shot. I just recently got a job and I did it by networking.

Try to get in contact with anyone you know who works in a hospital or other place with job offers and ask them if they can put a good word in for you. In the end, for a new grad networking is very important.

You're young and you've probably heard this before....have you considered relocating? From what I gather from reading AN is that Jersey and New York are saturated markets and it is extremely difficult to get a job there. Make sure you have a stellar resume, even with the limited work experience you have. Don't give up! Someone's going to want you! Good luck!

No, don't let yourself be carried away. Only get your BSN if you want a BSN, there is no requirement for all nurses to get a BSN . The only requirement is that you know someone in order to get hired. You could be the worst student your school ever (barely) graduated and get a top sought after job. Nursing Jobs are often only about who you know.

I feel ya. Got 3 rejections today alone. :crying2::crying2::crying2::crying2::crying2: And I've been an LPN 7 years and was an aide before that.

I would encourage you to apply to places you want (or maybe don't really want, if you're desperate), send a seperate resume by mail to the manager of the unit you are applying, and then follow up in about 4-5 days to enquire about the job. This is what I did when I first started out. I wanted to work OB, and it is a specialized are, that, for the most part, wants people with experience. I had many offers by doing this process. A lot of times your application doesn't even make it to the unit manager. It is weeded out by HR. So if you contact the manager him/herself, they can search for your application and get the process rolling.

Good luck!

:)I don't know where you live but if you are interested check out these websites

http://www.bsahs.org. Baptist saint Anthony health care system- nonprofit

And http://www.nwtexashealthcare.com Norhtwest Texas hospital - for profit

I know for a fact both hire new grads. ADN or BSN doesn't matter

I work at BSA and my director showed me the file for new applications just

A few days ago and it was empty and she is needing to hire several rn's

So if Texas is an option check out the sites.

Also the reason I told if the hospital was non profit or not is because there is

A program called NELRP that helps repay student loans if you qualify

And one requirement is working for a nonprofit disportionate share hospital

hope this helps:)

You should contact your clinical instructors & preceptor while in nursing school and see if they can recommend you where they work. Most of our clinical instructors were part time with my nursing school and had hospital jobs as well. 2 of my classmates got jobs this way. You can also volunteer at the hospitals in your area. Sometimes they will hire new grads who've volunteered- another one of my classmates got a job this way. Ask every single person you know if they have some sort of hospital/health contact....a referral is probably the best bet! Good luck!

Like what others have mentioned, it doesnt matter wether you have an AS or a BSN. Times like these, its people u know that matters. I was exactly in your shoes a few months ago. I almost lost heart until I finally asked my wife to help me out (shes been a RN for 6 years now). Just a few calls and within a week I have 3 offers. Took the hospital job since I never liked working in a LTC facility as my first job. Dont lose hope. As someone else suggested try to ask for your professers or clinical instructors for help. Or maybe ask around for friends who might know nurses who u can get in touch with. Good luck in your search and dont give up.
