Help about CE's and the process .....

My nursing license expires in about 6 months I haven't done any CE's cause I don't have a nursing job (I haven't found one yet!!). I was wondering 1) how can I get some CE's done and 2) once we get our CE's done how is the Ohio Board of nursing notified?

I checked the Ohio Board of Nursing and there was only website I could go to get CE's done but it didn't talk about the process of CEs.

Can someone explain the whole process to me so I can better understand it.

thank you very much!!!

You don't need a job to get CEU's. You can actually do many online, just google "free nursing CEU's" and they will link you with many different sites. You can also take a couple of courses, one I use in a bind is http://www.andersonce.com/mall/nurse_course_list1.htm. They have some pretty interesting courses you can take.

One thing you'll need to find out is if you need to take specific classes, ie like ones on abuse or HIV to maintain your license. Your state BON site should be able to tell you that.

Most states, you don't submit copies of your CEU's, you maintain your own records for at least two years in case you are audited. It's assumed if you apply for renewal of your license you have met the standard which includes CEU's.

I'm not licensed in Ohio but with the other states I've been licensed in, the process is pretty much the same. You can PM me or email me if you need more help. Good luck.

Another question: Someone told me you don't have to do CEU's for the first renewal. Is this correct?

Don't know how it is for OH, but here in PA the 2009 renewals don't need CEU's. CEU requirements start with those expiring in 2010. Might be a good idea to check with the state board of nursing. :nurse:
