First Week of CNA Program

Published

I'm on my way! The first week was ok, so far we have just worked on study skills, resumes, and last night we began the chapter on residents rights and what a CNA does, and does not do. I can't wait to get to clinical, that's still a couple weeks away.

How are all the other students doing?

Hi,

My CNA course is only 5 weeks @ 2x week 10 classes all together. How come yours is so long, I'm jealous really. I feel like I made a bad choice, because I really want to be an ER tech or PCT, I'm not interested in LTC, and that is really all this course is about. We due clinicals on an anatomicaly sp? correct dummy, I'm going to stick out the class, since its paid for, but how do I go to the next step to get me were I want to be (hospital) ex..CNA2. Also when we filled out our State exam Application, we were told to fill in the bubble that said we have not completed a state approved CNA course, but insted we had to mark the bubble that said we were challengers? What does all this mean, and is there a DIFFERENCE IN State approved and not state approved CNA courses? sorry for the rant, but I'm so confused. And I plan on becoming a Nurse:nurse: in the future.

That is awful, they didn't tell you all that before they took your money for the class? Grrr!! Do the hospitals in your area hire CNA's as ER techs? I don't know a thing about that, but I hope you can do it.

My class is at a vocational school, it's a lot more academic than I expected, but I love it. Class is twice a week, plus every other Saturday.

Hi, and welcome! I'm glad to see more of us here.

I didn't know any state allowed challenging the exam. But since your school is private maybe you'll find lots of extra perks and better labs?

CNA is mostly about LTC and to go on to CNA2 a lot of programs require some kind of minimum exp as a CNA1 but that varies along the way. I know one hosp that will hire CNA1s if they agree to take NA2 while working :) Your career is just starting, don't worry. Take your prereqs for LPN or RN, and you'll do awesome :) Good luck God bless!

Hi, your post was helpful, I now realize I'm part of a class that is based on on how to pass the state exam, I like the class, and the RN who teaches it but, I do not really feel challanged, I think everyone takinging this class, is just looking for a job, with no intentions of moving up. I was hoping for more, all around care, not just focused on elderly, and nursing home based settings. I was thinking about doing the 6mo program that would result in a CNA/PCT also some medical billing coding. That sounds more like what I'm looking for, something that leads to a hospital. The class I'm in just prepares you fo HH/CNA LTC. I will finish this, but will just try to persue my LPN, why not its only 12mo school, with 2x the pay in the end. How do I get a job in the hosp. with only a not state approved CNA? Is is possible, I will do almost anything, except mabey, post mortem care lol.:saint: to even get my foot in the door! Keep in touch through out your program, as I will too.:nurse:

Nice! I completed the EMT-B course too (I plan on getting my license soon). Also, I'm trying to take a CNA course within the next month or so. My goal is RN :wink2:.

HI EVERYONE!

I am new here. I start my 10 week, weekend CNA course tomorrow. I am pretty excited as well. I kind of do and don't know what to expect. Both my mom and my aunt were CNA's so I know somewhat about it, but I still am excited because I am not sure what to expect from the course I guess, paperwork wise? I'm glad I foudn this site. It helps give me insight. :yeah:

Hi,

My class is so lax! we have a work book the goes along with the class book, word for word, so easy! We also have an in service work book that all CNA prep classes have, this is mandatory and graded. our work book is not. our instructer said we can follow the class sylabus or work ahead, or do nothing and cram to finish it berfore the end of program. She dont care. as long as our inservice book is completed for the state. the other work book is optional, but it will make a nice study guide if its filled in. ok thats all. hope that eases some jitters. The class is easy!!:nurse:

It sounds like you are in a program to help you pass the state boards rather than the actual course. It doesn't matter how you get your certification...a lot of places wonthire you without 6 months-1 experiece (ie, hospital) so many do the LTC thing for that amount of time for experience value and than land hospital jobs.
