First travel assignment in hazard ky

excited but yet nervous! Not 100% sure what I am getting myself into :) Has anyone worked in Hazard Ky? Just looking for some insight if anyone has some to offer me. I am a ICU nurse. Thanks ahead of time

It's a tiny very conservative community in eastern rural Kentucky ... in the Appalacians. They probably have difficulty attracting health care providers so may be grateful you are there, or distrust you as an outsider. It should be pretty this time of year (I've been to Hyden, not far away, and people from Hyden go shopping and out to eat in Hazard).

That is what I was kind of woundering is if I would be looked at with bitterness as an "outsider". I might try it, surely it wont be that bad... thanks for the response.

Is this the area where the old TV show 'Dukes of Hazard' was supposedly based? If so, you might may a good impression by wearing confederate flag scrubs.

Wishing you good luck on your assignment. I am sure you will be accepted and appreciated for helping them out. Bet they have a done a lot of image control to overcome the effects from that TV show & do not want to give the impression that they are backwards-so you should be fine.

My dad lives in Pikeville, and says they are rough in that area and not open minded to new ideas or changes or outsiders.

Lori..yes I believe that is where that movie was filmed at. Thanks for your encouragment. It will be interesting to say the least.

A dear friend of mine is an RN there and she is probably the most gentle person I've ever known, would not consider her "rough". Just because it's a rural part of the world, it can still be a beautiful area (I've been there), explore and if you havent seen nature up close there is lots to see. You might just like it and the local people too if you give them a chance. Good luck!

the dukes of hazzard show was implied to have been referring to hazzard county georgia not ky. and the tv show was primarily filmed in covington ga. ( the same town where heat of the night tv show was filmed) and parts of california. the movie dukes of hazzard was filmed in new orleans and ga.

TNrose, thanks for your reply. Part of the reason that I want to take this assigment is for the natural beauty of the place. I really enjoy photography and thought this might be a neat chance to shoot some. THanks
