Hi, does anyone know how soon after you get placed on probation(for alcohol/DUI) do you get your first Peth test? Im in Northern California. Thanks.

Rubbing alcohol is Isopropyl Alcohol. It's OK.
Methyl Alcohol-Woods Alcohol, causes blindness if enough is ingested. OK to touch
Ethyl Alcohol- the big No No, found in liquor, beer, pure vanilla extracts, many perfumes. NOT OK to drink and don't touch for very long if at all in monitoring.
Propyl Alcohol- Alcohol pads, swabs, rubbing alcohol, OK to touch.
Butyl Alcohol, found in industrial solvents, resins for furtinure making, etc.
MEPB. Methyl, Ethyl, Butyl, Propyl, the bases for biochemistry.
Rayce1919 said:No alcohol! None. Not in mouthwash, hand sanitizer, spray your perfume on your clothes, no vanilla extract, no soy sauce... read the ingredients, ask Google if there is alcohol in it. Very minimal wiggle room. I am nervous every single time. 5 months left!
This is overdoing it - just don't DRINK alcohol. You can still use hand sanitizer, spray perfume, eat soy sauce, etc. I do all of those things and have had urine tests and peth tests the very next day and all negative.
Yes, you have to change your life during monitoring, but not to the degree that you can't do simple life things. All of these messages on here are fear-mongering and it should stop.
Your Statement is MOSTLY true, but not completely true.
1. Soy Sauce? You brought that into the equation. It wasn't mentioned in this thread. Of course Soy Sauce is Fine. I didn't read anything in this thread about soy sauce until you mentioned it.
2. Hand Sanitizer? Again, Hand Sanitizer is Rubbing Alcohol (Isopropyl) and as CLEARLY stated in this thread, Isopropyl Alcohol is perfectly fine. Zero fear mongering with Soy Sauce or Hand Sanitizer.
3. Now, as for perfume. We disagree SOME. As I stated, nothing wrong with Perfume on the clothes. Spray em up. No big deal, but.....PERFUME, as I gave you SCIENCE, not opinion or emotion, but SCIENCE shows perfume is often about 170 proof alcohol or 85% ETHYL Alcohol, which is the bad stuff. Now, again, that ethyl alcohol is NOT being ingested by drinking it. But, 85% ethyl alcohol is ALOT of alcohol and if someone sprays it on their skin a couple hours before a test, WHY on earth would you take that chance? Why is that "Fear Mongering"? Again, wear PERFUME everyday of your life. No issues. Spray it on your clothes, and fine to do a dab on the skin, but if you are selected that day, wouldn't common sense say......"maybe I should hold off today on rubbing the perfume on my skin, then simply resume doing it tomorrow morning"? I can give you example of where SCIENCE, actual testing of perfume on the skin has show positive for ETG in alcohol test IF......IF.......IF..... enough of it is sprayed or applied directly ONTO the skin (not the clothes, but the skin) within 4 hours of a urine test. That literature is there.
So, in conclusion. I eat Soy Sauce all the time. I use hand sanitizer all the time, daily. I use perfume Daily ON my Clothes and on the weekends, I put in on my skin. If I'm selected that day, I don't apply to clothes or skin. Is that fear mongering a "Major Life Change"? Na, not really. I simply miss one day of perfume. It doesn't cause me a panic attack or emotional breakdown, LOL.

1. Read post #9, by Rayce1919 - they mention soy sauce. Or you can just read the post I quoted. I am replying to other people that keep bringing up soy sauce - I didn't bring it up first.
2. Again, read post #9 or did you not even bother to read the quoted post in my post? It mentions hand sanitizer in there also.
3. You disagree some, but I disagree completely. Have sprayed perfume on directly on my skin. Many times I have sprayed it directly on my skin in the morning, and then around lunchtime, have to leave work to take a Urine ETG test - all have been negative. My tests are both ETG and ETS and at the usual monitoring low levels.
I understand it doesn't cause you panic attacks or anxiety. But the posts on this forum are almost bordering on ridiculous. There are things you should watch out for - but not most everyday items. Even mouthwash that is 40% alcohol like many Listerine antiseptic, won't do anything to a test. The studies you read, and you should read them in detail and how they conducted it, are not real-world situations. The mouthwash study had people switching alcoholic mouthwash for 15-20 min in 1 sitting and did it 3 times a day for it to be positive. Who swishes mouthwash for 15 min, 3X a day?
The fear mongering on this forum is out of control.

You do you. Spray perfume on your skin daily, even if selected. It's your choice. Live your life, but don't get upset at others who also live their lives. Like I wrote, Science says...soysauce and rubbing alcohol are fine, and so is perfume onnl the clothes and so is perfume on the skin, if done sparingly and science says not the best choice if you place ethanol containing high proof perfume on your skin with a few hours before a test. You do what you wish. I speak for me. NO fear mongering here. Just common sense. I have a PhD. I thank you for the research advice and "how to read a study," but I think I'm fairly decent in that department. As for mouthwash, I use alcohol based mouthwash daily, but again......common sense. I don't do it if selected that day and I don't let mouthwash stay in mouth for over 10 seconds. Why? Science. Mucus membranes (kind of why people get addicted to snuff) are abundant innthe mouth and things cross over from the mucus membranes and into the bloodstream if longer than 10 seconds, so why take the chance. Common sense. I just skip it the day I was selected.

Good - and that's great. But my reply was not to you - it was to Rayce1919 - who mentioned hand sanitizer, soy sauce, perfume and mouthwash. That is fear mongering and needs to be called out.

I agree ewth your premise, but you are too far the other way. Answers are usually found in the middle. Your statement, "Just Don't Drink Alcohol," is simply not accurate. There are studies where perfume applies to the skin in large enough amounts a few hours before a test will trigger a positive urine alcohol. It simply will and that's not OK to simply "not drink alcohol." It's MOSTLY true to not drink alcohol, but two things...
Perfume to the skin in a fairly large amount a couple of hours before the test and 2 or 3 vanilla extract (pure rum based) cupcakes a couple of hours before a test can absolutely trigger a positive test. Outside of the two above, I agree that abstaining from alcohol does the trick. I also NEVER wrote above that cupcakes and perfume are bad and that someone should never partake. I just wrote, a couple hours before the test and you are playing with fire.

Do you have a link to the perfume study? Because no, applying perfume or cologne to the skin does not cause your BAC to rise enough to produce ETG, not even for a sensitive urine test.
And nobody is bathing themselves in a bathtub full of perfume. We are talking about a couple of sprays before we go out shopping, to someone's house or just your daily routine.

Research for yourself, and YES, perfume applied in moderate to heavy amounts (Depends on the alcohol content of the perfume) to the skin absolutely can raise ETG above cutoff levels, as can vanilla extract. As for research, I will give you a hint. Search outside of the US in the country that makes Toyota. They did extensive fairly powerful research on ethanol based hand sanitizer and certain perfumes with high alcohol content and tested ETG in urine and blood 2-3 hours later. Certain perfumes directly on the skin in moderate size amounts absolutely CAN trigger ETG,. So, why does this not happen more across the country? Because the duration is short...ie...2, 3, max of 4 hours, then the sheer volume is well below threshold. How common is it for a nurse yo wake up, check in, spray lots of perfume on their skin, then go test? That's not common. It's exactly why I wear perfume everyday, but if selected to test that day, I hold off until After I test. This is all I've said regarding perfumes. I wear it daily and wear quite a bit of it. But, to say it's absolutely no concern at all is not accurate.
"Nobody is bathing themselves in a bathtub full of perfume."<-----your words, also known as Hyperbole. Hyperbole is a form of Fallacy. Stay abstract and in formal operations, not concrete. You went concrete.
After you went Hyperbole or concrete, you came back to reality and went back to formal operations with a '"couple of sprays," which is Correct. I agree with this, and do it myself and have kind of been clear on that.
I use perfume daily in fairly large amounts. Love rum base pure vanilla extract cake icing and eat them at least 3 times per week, but if selected to test that day, I hold off on a cupcake and perfume that morning. This is all I'm saying. Common sense. To argue it doesn't matter At All or I'd absolutely no concern is simply not smart.
