Hey everyone,
I just received my BSN and trying to decide the best place to start based on my long term goals. I eventually want to get into advance practice are my areas of interest are: public/community, mental, and women's health. I know there is no such thing as a "perfect" job but I'm not sure what avenue to pursue.
The options so far are in order of top consideration are:
-Work for 1 year as a psych RN and then apply for PMHNP
-Work for 1 year in community/public health and then apply for MSN/MPH
-Work for 1 year in med/surg and then apply for FNP
I really don't see myself doing bedside nursing forever, even though I don't turn my nose up to this at all because I know it's valuable experience. I guess I'm kind of on the holistic health bandwagon and more interested in providing education/prevention. However, I don't want to be too general and lose clinical skills which is why at this time I am leaning more towards PMHNP.
Thanks for any help!

i would have to recommend starting in med/surg. it will be harder to go from psych or community to med surg if you change your mind, vs. vice versa
this is coming from someone who started in psych
also, unless youve worked in psych before, you may find you dont love it after spending some time in the trenches.
just my 2cents
Thank you for this advice!!
