First day of summer session Monday

Published

HELP! :rotfl: I am so nervous! I start summer classes on Monday. I am taking Biology and algebra this summer. This will be my first college experience EVER. Can anyone tell me what to expect? Any pointers or advice? I have been out of school for almost 6 years.

I purchased my books last week and was looking through them. Biology looks very interesting and algebra...well...let's just say not my favorite subject.

Another question I have....Do they start lecturing on the first day of class? Someone told me they usually just hand out syllabus and go over general info. I'm hoping I will not need a recorder for the first week. I need to get my financial aid back from the school to go purchase one.

Sorry for the rambling...again just nervous :uhoh3:

Good luck to you. Start at the beginning and don't get behind. That's my only advice.

Depends on the instructor, many courses do as you say, just a general introduction on what to expect and a passing of the syllabus. But many jump right into it. I never used a recorder for any classes, so it's not a requirement to use a recorder, so if you miss one day of recording, no big deal.

Have fun.

Just remember that summer classes are really fast paced, so it may shock you for your first college experience.

Like Tweety said, don't get behind! Ask questions if you don't hear or understand what the instructor is saying. Reading the chapter before class helps to have at least a clue as to what will be lectured on.

Next advice: STUDY, STUDY, STUDY!!!! ;)

Good luck and I hope you enjoy your journey!

I have also been out of school for awhile.. (since 1997) I'm a little nervous as well because summer classes are usually pretty accelerated...Luckily for this summer, I'm taking classes that aren't hard... a math class and English comp 1. Next semester, I'm taking Algebra, English Comp 2, Psycology, Anatomy and Physiology 1.

I'm pretty nervous though because I have a husband that works fulltime (so I've worked my schedule for the morning classes mostly), and then we have 3 kids ages 6 1/2, 4 1/2, and 2 1/2. So, studying will be a little hard.. I'd have to wait til they all were in bed before I could study... I am determined to make this work.. My hubby is being supportive and said that while in school, to consider it my job... I am approved for the Pell Grant, so I will get money back after a few weeks into each semester..That money will go towards gas for the car and other things... I'm just worried because A & P seems pretty hard...Not to mention that when I was in high school, I had taken Intro to Psycology and barely passed that with a "c"... *sigh* It's nice knowing there are others out there that are going through what I'm going through... I am glad that I stumbled onto this forum too....

Oh, nice to meet you all.. :) My name is Stacey and I'm 25 yrs old. I met my husband online in ICQ through my mom when we were 16, and we were married in 1998. This october will be 7 yrs, and we couldn't be happier.. I decided that I wanted to go to school for either RN or LPN to help out with financial responsibilities and so that once I graduated and had a job, I could put my husband through school...

Thanks for listening!!!!

Thank you all for your replies! I am trying to mentally prepare myself for all of the studying I am going to be doing. :uhoh21: I have read over chapters 1 in both of my books and I looked through my lab book. I figured it couldn't hurt and now I will have a starting point.

Scoley....it seems we are in the same boat. I also have little ones at home a 3 year old son and 9 month old daughter. I will be a late night studier as well. My hubby works full time and I do not work outside of the home so hopefully I can make this work. You look like you are going to have a full schedule this fall. I am worried about that too. I am taking A&P 1, psychology, and chemistry...yikes :uhoh3: My hubby works with a guy and his wife is taking pre-req's at the same CC I am. He told me today she started this week and they gave her 4 chapters to read and it has taken her 7 hours to get through 2. I asked what class that is and he said he wasn't sure. I told him "FIND OUT PLEASE!" I know this is going to be hard. Nothing worth having comes easy. :) This site has been a wealth of info and advice.

Hmm.. I'm just taking the Summer II which I'm pretty sure is about 4 weeks or 5 weeks long.. My Fall Semester starts on the 22nd of August. I'm not even worried about any of my math classes. Just A & P and Pysc... I'll have to take Chemistry in my spring semester, and I'm a little worried about that one as well... However, I know i can handle it.. Look at all the millions of people out there that have went through the same and came out great!!! We can do it!! LOL
