This is my first clinical ever and I'm going to be in a hospice! I'm just wondering how it is for experienced nurses already working in hospice. I'm kind of nervous. I know I won't be doing as much as you all but just any advice would be appreciated. I currently volunteer in a vascular/Neuro unit but I don't do much ( just talk with the patients check bed alarms and paper work). I'm nervous but excited to be in my first clinical setting it's been a long process getting here and I'm ready
Just a little background about myself uneasy first in school for criminal justice, but while in school I fell ill and had open heart surgery. I had the best nurses anyone could ask for. I was 18 and each and every nurse i had left a huge impact. I still speak with one of my nurses and this was 7 years ago. I'm now 25 and ready to treat patients how I was treated. That experience changed my life for the better.
Thanks!!!

I frequently had nursing students with me and they actually did a lot -- lots of assessments, helping with daily care, death visits, the works. You will see a large number of different diagnoses and get lots of experience with pain and medications. I think that the clinical will be a good one.
I would give you the same advice I would give any student in any clinical -- listen carefully, help out when you can. Don't be afraid to ask questions.
Tammy were you in my class at csm for anatomy???
Also thanks for the advice I start Tuesday!!!
