I never thought it would be so hard to find a full time job with benefits as a nurse with the so called shortage and all. I have went to about every place I can think of in my state and I get the same thing everywhere I go. They offer me per diem jobs with no benefits, or they say," call us back in a week", which really means get lost.... I wish someone could help me out before I have to take a janitors job for benefits and do nursing on the side as a hobby. Is anyone else experiencing this? or is it just in my state of NJ?

alicet, I see you posted this a couple of places. Be patient, we have some good help on the board. I'm not really in a position to advise, but maybe you could post more details. How you got certified, when you graduated and what things you have done to look for work?

Have you tried nursing homes, or only hospitals? Are you willing to work any shift or any days? Are you available to work every weekend?
And have you actually taken the NCLEX-PN exam yet?

This what I was wondering also. In our area nursing homes are pretty much a sure bet for full time LPN jobs with benes. Good luck, Jules
Thanks for writing back to my topic, yes I am an LPN, I passed my NCLEX back in september and I am still looking for a job. The place I am at now is a nursing home which I am just per diem, and you have to work your butt off and kiss butt for about 5 years to get in full time! I just dont have that kind of time. All the hospitals in NJ do not want LPNs, they dont even want the ones they have, they want them to get their RN or they might be out of work soon. I think LPN in NJ is doomed, its either move up or move out of NJ all together is how I see it. Yesterday I went in on 3-11 and asked them for a housekeeping position with benefits so hope that works out......

I don't know what area of New Jersey you're in, but here in southern NJ, I have seen plenty of nursing homes advertising for LPNs, and the ads often state that they need full-time LPNs. Nursing homes are usually understaffed, so if one is a LPN in this state, I would think that LTC is a great area to work as a LPN, and that they would be begging to hire you. I wish you the best.
Oh, I am from South Jersey, if you dont mind could you please tell me where you found those advertisements of full time jobs with benefits? I have been looking on the career builder web site but its mostly those Bayada jobs for home care.
