Financial Aid...waiting..waiting.........

Hi,

Has anyone at any Ivy Tech campuses got their award letter yet for their financial aid for 2008-2009??

I don't have anything yet either...Can you provide details? Does it tell you how to obtain your loan money? Are we all getting the same amount with the new process, and may I ask how much is that?

I hate to say it but I am glad to know someone else hasn't received their info yet! I was going to freak if they screwed it up because I have no other way to pay for classes for the fall! Maybe they are staggering them...hopefully something shows up tomorrow!

I just checked mine (somehow it let me check it at 2 am..) and don't have it either. Now I'm jealous.

Mine was posted under financial aid award info in campus connect. Usually I get an email and I have to accept or deny, but for some reason, it already said accepted next to both grants. State aid still isn't posted on there, but I was able to view my award on the state aid website.

I'm not a fan of this new system. I'm hoping they get all the kinks worked out soon.

Mine has shown up which was surprising to me. Earlier in the year they had told me that I wouldn't qualify for anything since I had a bachelors already, but that I could apply for private loans. Then today I see that I qualified for federal loans and it was pretty exciting :)

Would you mind telling me how much they offered you? I forget what the max amount we can get is...Just trying to budget for the semester. Does it give you any info about disbursement?

I haven't had mine posted. I called financial aid and they have no idea why. They informed me they have to email the main branch. When you applied, on the sar it should have your efc. Just call financial aid and tell them what your efc is and they can tell you how much you will get.

I spoke with my advisor today. The notifications are being staggered (with Indy at least). She said if I don't have anything by August 1st to let them know so they can find out what's wrong.

As for loans this year, you will receive an email offering you the MAX amount you can take out for this year. For me, my max for the 08-09 year is 9500, meaning each semester they will offer me 4750 and I can either accept that amount, decline, or lower it. She said that I should receive my first disbursement after the 30 day waiting period is up, so sometime in September, and my next disbursement would be around October.

Thanks kgle, that's helpful. I emailed financial aid today and they said they were staggering it, had just started packaging the aid two days ago and I should hear something in the next two weeks. I am trying to be patient but this is just so frustrating. I never, ever had any problems like this when I was at IU or IUPUI, even as a graduate student. I just don't understand why Ivy Tech does things the way they do them. For instance, what sense does it make that they disburse your first batch of loans 30 days after the semester begins?! How the eff are we supposed to pay our tuition and buy books?! I am STILL waiting for my check in the mail for my summer loans. The second portion was disbursed 7/18 but I still haven't gotten the check from Ivy Tech. I feel like all I do is complain but it's just as if they make things as difficult as possible for us. And I'm not even in the nursing school yet-- I'm still doing my prereqs. I don't know if I'm going to continue @ IT if I am going to have to go through this for the next four years. How will I pay my tuition for the nursing program with all those credit hours, supplies, and books without student loan money available before the start of the semester?? And all the other campuses except Lawrence/Columbus have book lists up!!! RARRR!!!! Things should not be this difficult. :banghead:

sorry....i just really needed to vent

If it comes to that, I would speak to someone in the Bursars office. They should allow you to set up some kind of payment arrangement that will prevent you from being dropped. I would keep calling them and stalling your first payment until your funds are available. I'm sure they run into this quite often. It's worth a shot, anyhow.

I ran into this over the summer since loans were disbursed so far after the first day of classes. The bursar basically said that the only arrangement they could make was to split the tuition into two equal payments plus a $25 charge. The first half was due before the first day of classes and the second 30 days later. They weren't really willing to help much beyond that, and said that was the only arrangement they are able to make.

Haha I am still working on my pre reqs too :) Luckily...I will probably qualify for Pell Grants the whole way through (I am hoping) and other than that, the loan I take out in Fall of 09 will be helping me for the following semester if that makes sense.

If this is any consolation, my last disbursement was the 17th, they always print 2 business days after so that means mine printed on the 21st. I just received mine today (as in the 25th). I would say you should be receiving yours very soon!

The way it has worked in the past and I assume is still the same deal is they will count whatever aid is anticipated like it is already there. For example if you get 1400 in awards and your tuition and fees are 1000, you can use the other 400 in the bookstore to buy your books. You do not have to wait until the disbursement. Just go to the bookstore and see if they have your account entered if not you will just have to go to the business office and have it added.

This is how it has worked for me in the past. Then whatever is left over when they do the disbursements is what you will have refunded to you.

It kind of sucks because if you wanted to try and get cheaper books elsewhere you can't use your aid, but at least you don't have to worry your fees will be paid.

I hope I made sense. Sometimes I ramble LOL!
