Financial Aid help

Published

I really need some help with some financial aid questions. I attended Hinds in 1990 and received a technical certificate in drafting. I was fresh out of high school and wanted to get married so I didn't give my major much thought. Anyway, I lived in a small town and couldn't find a drafting job. I have since been taking my pre reqs online for nursing on and off. My problem is that now I have too many college hours to receive a pell grant to a 2 year college. Does anyone have any suggestions for any other type of aid? Can you get stafford loans for a 2 year degree? I really want to finish my education, but can't afford it on my own.

i have never heard of having too many hours to receive a grant, however..they use to have a thing where if u had a degree already, u were not eligible to receive the grant, however, that is null and void now! have u applied for the grant? i did, and only got $600 (which is MORE than I started with!) but....i did receive a SEOG grant.. not too sure what it is, i googled it, but it didnt tell me much! I am just grateful I got it! my school does NOT participate in the "loan programs" good luck...hope I helped at all!

I have applied for a pell grant even though I know I won't get it. The financial aid head has had to file an appeal on my behalf the last year so I could get it for my pre reqs. He might do it again, but I can't see him doing it for another year. I just know that the school keeps telling me that I have over 100 hours at the Jr college level and I should have a degree. That is true if I hadn't taken a technical program the first 2 years. I have received the SEOG before also. My problem now is that if I do get into the LPN program I will have to quit work to attend. I will need something to supplement my husbands income.

The win job center has funding. I think it's called WIA.

Like LPN0608 said jg24 try the win job center.. U will have to wait until u get ur acceptance letter into the program and that should b by june and that is also when funding comes in at the win job center.. Take ur papers there and they will go over a few things with u, if Im not mistaken I think u will have to write an essay as to why you should receive the funding or why you want to become a nurse.. I hope this helps u!
