I am a fluent Spanish speaker with a BS in Modern Languages. I am planning to get some pre-reqs out of the way this summer and work on a BSN this fall.... Any suggestions or advice as how to attain some financial aid for such a situation or any programs geared to help poor students that are bilingual??? Please help! Thanks...

Sounds like you're going to be a 2nd degree BSN student soon...:-) Unfortunately, if you used financial aid (Stafford loans, etc.) for your first degree, getting funding for the 2nd degree will be a bit more difficult because of the aggregate limits set by the government. The best thing to do would be to talk with the fin aid advisor at the school you will be attending to get an idea of what options are available for you. I don't know if there's anything specific for bilingual students, but your state may have special programs in place. I found this link about NW Arkansas . http://www.nwansged.com/modules/about_bnsi/. Also, find out what nursing scholarships are available in your nursing school.
I'm bilingual too, but I didn't get any extra fin aid because of it...I just think it helped me stand out as a NS application and new grad.
Hope this helps.
Thanks pshs 2000!

I didn't get anything either. It helped me find a job quicker I think, but other than that............ nada. I got more help for my grades than anything else.

I speak 3 languages fluently. That means nothing for financial aid. It might matter if you're a minority since there are some scholarships and grants for that.
