I graduted HS in 2007 and started college the following fall. I did very well in HS but my first year in college was the complete opposite. I failed out of some classes and got C's in the rest. I took a break from school and completely felt lost. I did not take college seriously, I didnt study the way I should have and completely gave up on myself. I got a job as a MA and love it! I have been working at my job for 4 years now. A few months ago I started looking into a for profit ADN program and actually considered going, no pre reqs required, I would have been able to start right away! And then it hit me, why on earth would I spend close to 50,000 dollars at this school (which by the way isnt accredited by the NLNAC) when I could get the same degree (with accreditation) at my local community college for about 16,000 dollars!
I am now ready to go back to school and rock it! I know I can do it, I have so much motivation in me. At times it saddens me to know that at the age of 23 I am barely going to start working on my pre-reqs for the nursing program, especially when realizing that many of my HS classmates have already graduated. I think that part of that sadness also pushes me to get this done. I have a supportive family and a very supportive boyfriend of 6 years.
I guess what I'm trying to say with this thread is that it is never too late to go for your dreams.
Here's to anyone else that has been or is in the same boat as me. We can get it done! Come September 24th I will start fresh and go far...I just know it :)
Its nice to see that others are on the same boat and that we can all motivate and encourage each other. I know we can all succeed if we put our hearts and minds to it. I'm taking two classes each term so I dont feel too overwhelmed and can concentrate on getting those much needed A's :) I have never felt so ready and excited in life. Things are great and this just puts the cherry on top of the sundae.
Best of luck to everyone starting fresh. It would be nice to keep in touch throughout the year and keep everyone up to date on our progress.

Do you know what you want to specialize in?? or just generals for now?
I've always loved L&D, being in there during my nephews and nieces births was AMAZING! I also think ED nurse would be magnificent. Thats the beauty about nursing, you can go in so many directions...and if you start getting bored you can move around. The nurses I work with tell me that when my time comes to enter a nursing program its best to go in open minded and just take it all in, maybe I'll end up hating L&D and find my "calling" in something else.
I am also taking only two classes per term. Also studying to CLEP a few so that it will be a bit quicker and lessen my load towards the program. Plus, I'll be able to dedicate my time to A&P when it comes time to take it. Determined to ace those courses.
This first term I am finishing my last math requirement and taking my last psych class. I'm not too worried about this term. Winter term I am taking A&P as well as a writing class...that is when I have to bust my butt and STUDY STUDY STUDY! I am determined to rock A&P, getting an early start and starting to memorize bones :)
I'm taking 2 classes at a time right now. It seems like just the right balance. Especially since I have a 3 month old that demands a lot of attention :) I'm so excited because the quarter is almost over and I'm on track to get an A+ in both of my classes! I don't think I've ever done this well in school before lol. Must be because I finally found what I'm meant to do!

I joined the military straight out of high school back in 1994 ( left active and joined national guard in 2000).. Started prerequisites in 2000 then deployed in 2002, started back at school end of 2003, then deployed 2005-2006.. I finally graduated in 2009 at age of 33.. I have ten years on most of the young nurses I work with and I'm older than a couple of my docs
