Finally got my head on straight!

Published

I graduted HS in 2007 and started college the following fall. I did very well in HS but my first year in college was the complete opposite. I failed out of some classes and got C's in the rest. I took a break from school and completely felt lost. I did not take college seriously, I didnt study the way I should have and completely gave up on myself. I got a job as a MA and love it! I have been working at my job for 4 years now. A few months ago I started looking into a for profit ADN program and actually considered going, no pre reqs required, I would have been able to start right away! And then it hit me, why on earth would I spend close to 50,000 dollars at this school (which by the way isnt accredited by the NLNAC) when I could get the same degree (with accreditation) at my local community college for about 16,000 dollars!

I am now ready to go back to school and rock it! I know I can do it, I have so much motivation in me. At times it saddens me to know that at the age of 23 I am barely going to start working on my pre-reqs for the nursing program, especially when realizing that many of my HS classmates have already graduated. I think that part of that sadness also pushes me to get this done. I have a supportive family and a very supportive boyfriend of 6 years.

I guess what I'm trying to say with this thread is that it is never too late to go for your dreams.

Here's to anyone else that has been or is in the same boat as me. We can get it done! Come September 24th I will start fresh and go far...I just know it :)

I see you are on the 10 year plan as well?!? hahah

Good for you. I also started college a while ago and didn't really take it too seriously and then stopped. I agree with you about the for profit school vs. any of the community colleges.

Best of luck to you!

Yes, the 10 year plan it is :)

Time is going to pass whether I want it to or not, either way (unless I kick the bucket soon:uhoh3:) in 4 years I'm going to be 27, I can either be JUST 27 or be 27 with my RN. It's time to make this happen :)

If it makes you feel any better I'm 27 now and working on my prereqs. So I'll have to settle for being 30 with an RN ;)

Wow, did I type this? I also graduated high school in '07 and I am just starting pre reqs now. I also flunked my first semester of college. Thought I was the only one lol

Same situation but I graduated in 08..!! I ended up having my son in 2011 and it hit me that I need to get it together for myself and the sake of my son.. I'm 22 and ready for the journey! Best wishes to everyone!!

Me too! I graduated high school in 2007 and did not take my first year of college seriously at all. Really wish I had now, but I am doing the best I can. My goal is to be an RN by the time I'm 27 as well. We got this :)

Same exact boat! Graduated in 08 and messed up my first year of CC. Took a break, had my son in 2011, became a certified pharm tech, and working in the pharmacy now. Felt that it was a good time to go back to school and work towards my ADN/BSN. I'm starting from rock bottom with pre-reqs but have a better mentality then when I did fresh out of HS.

Wow! I have to start rock bottom for my pre reqs also but like you stated my mentality is different from when I was fresh out of high school. Right now I am a PCA and my hours are very flexible. I'm so excited and nervous at the same time!

Graduated '07 as well and finishing my pre-req's this semester. I'm so glad I came across this. It's beyond motivating & the positive energy is refreshing!

I wish the best of luck to all of you! :)

I am going to be almost 28 by the time I start my ADN program, 30 when I graduate. It's NEVER too late to follow your dreams. Sure I sometimes wish that I pushed myself more when I first started college so I could be done by now but I'm still happy with life so far and I'm hoping it becomes much better once I'm done!

I am 40 years old and working on my pre-req's. I can relate to you in so many ways. The college I attend only accepts 80 applicants per year, and receives close to 400 applications. It is important that I get A's in all my classes. I don't have time on my side.

I think the important thing to remember is that you learned from your mistakes. Good luck to you. I think you will do well.
