Finally Got A Job!!

Published

Yeah!!! I finally got a job as a RN after almost a year of looking. I graduated May 2010 and was beginning to look for positions outside of California. I am so happy. So yes it can be done. Please don't give up. Feel sad for a moment and then move on. Also, try to stay on top of your nursing skills and critical thinking. After looking for almost a year you may begin to lose your self-confidence. So staying sharp should help you sale yourself in your interview. I myself didn't do that but promised I would for my next interview (not) because I didn't feel very confident in my interview.

But be careful too. I asked one interviewer (not recently), "What was she looking for in a new grad?" and she said she didn't want anyone that thought they knew it all. I guess its harder to train those people. They want you pliable.

So good luck everyone and keep your head up.

Don't know what to do with my time now that I'm not searching for a job.

LDrnWNB - I believe I applied for the new grad job at Chino right along with you. I didn't get that job. How about you? I remember you did get a panel interview.

I finally got a job with UCI in ICU.

I had the panel interview and was offered a position, but declined it because I was offered my dream job in LDRP at another hospital!! That is such a great offer at UCI! I applied for some positions there, but never heard anything back. I bet you are happy to sit back and relax now that the job hunt is over :)

Congratulations for finding your dream job!!!!!!

Well congratulations to you too. How does it feel to have to decline an offer?

I am so happy. I don't know what to do with myself since I no longer have to search for a job. That took so much of my day. I did clean my garage today and watch netflix movies. And tomorrow it"s yard work, wash car and start on my desk. Did I say start? Well put away all my job searching materials.:w00t:

Since you declined, I wonder if it was your job that was posted a few days ago on Chino's website.

Thank you! I feel bad because I know there are many new grads that are searching for jobs and here I am declining offers and interviews, but I know I made the right decision. I am very grateful for these opportunities, but I am so happy to have landed my dream job. I just declined the offer yesterday so maybe they opened up the position again. Hopefully it opens up a spot for another new grad.

That's wonderful to hear you got a job! I interviewed for Chino as well, I haven't heard anything yet. do u know if they already picked someone? What did you do to get hired at your new job? Sorry for all the questions

Sorry I quoted the wrong hospital. I meant to say Corona Regional Medical Center instead of Chino. I've applied at so many I get confused. But I do remember LDrnWNB from that thread (CRMC).

LDrnWNB don't feel bad for turning down a position. It just opens it up for the next person in line. I bet they are probably thanking you right now.

Didn't do much to get hired at this new job. I applied on-line. I don't know anyone that works there. I applied for several positions. I graduated May 2010. I work per-diem as a registered nurse at a detention center (no bedside care) since Jan. I have BLS, ACLS and PALS. I have my BSN and they seemed to be interested in palliative care too. It seems like I've applied for over 500 positions so I would say, It was just my time.

Congratulations! I don't live in California and I hear from the boards here how HARD it is to get jobs. I'm in IL where it is not much different, but seems like people do get hired a little faster. I am 3 months out, and heading into the next "New Grad" season when May grads graduate. I know one hospital will try to place older new grads before the newer new grads, so I am crossing fingers on them. But the word also is they might start a hiring freeze, and my manager on the floor I did an internship with even emailed me that there are just not enough open positions for her to recommend to me. :( Yikes!

So I am 3 months out and am going to renew BLS, get ACLS, and start doing some day shifts at a good nursing home here to keep skills up. Any other advice on keeping fresh, I am all ears. I am hoping it is a matter of time for my number to come up as well! (Interested in Critical Care and Carido if given the chance-:o)

ALL the BEST ladies, and congrats again! KaLyn :nurse:

what do you do in the meantime?? while you're waiting to get a job???? im going to be a new grad pretty soon and i want to be as prepared as possible for reality!! LOL!

Hi anita_li17,

I try to apply for RN positions everyday, sometimes I have to go on job interview for RN position I have been to 3 job interviews so far, so hopefully I will land a job soon. Also I am enrolled in some real estate classes because I am thinking about getting my real estate license. I also enjoy reading about nursing stuff and keeping my sciene knowledge sharp and fresh. I have a previous degree in biology and I love learning science stuff. I also plan to volunteer at the American Red cross, take an IV course and a Phlebotomy course also. I basically try to keep my self as busy as I can and think positive. I do have me bad days but I just pick myself up and I am determined to get a job in my area of interest!!!!

One important thing to keep in mind: YOU HAVE TO BE YOUR BIGGEST FAN AN D BELIEVE IN YOURSELF, AND HAVE SELF-CONFIDENCE!!!!!!
