Finally decided on nursing

Good evening,

So I finally decided that I want to be a nurse, eventually my end goal is a midwife. Right now I'm an EMT since 2015 (volunteer based), I've worked as a pharmacy tech for 2 years, and I'm a patient access liaison in the ER. My issue is I got my bachelors in biology and I have a GPA 2.61. I'm planning on retaking A&P which this dummy got a C in for both 1&2 (abusive relationship was the cause of my downfall). And taking microbiology, and retaking Chen 1&2 as well and biostats. Retaking all of these will give me a 3.0 as long as I do really well.

Is this hopeless? I'm really concerned about my GPA impairing me. I will go anywhere that will take me. And a friend said to try Quinnipiac (their min GPA is a 3.0) they're a private school and more expensive so they're a little more flexible with people. Which I am more than willing to do. I just want to know if anyone has had a positive outcome in a similar situation or if there's anything I can do to help myself.

    Practically all schools have wait lists and they don't accept everyone. That is why they have wait lists.

    Where are you located? Retaking all those classes had me stressed out just reading it lol. I've noticed a lot of LPN programs have less strict requirements for admissions, in my state, Ohio, you only need a 2.5 to enter LPN and a 3.0 to enter the RN pathway but if you already have a degree then you might want to consider the accelerated RN Program, however that's where your GPA becomes an issue. I'd suggest finding out what the requirements are to become an LPN and take that route, because both programs have basically the same prerequisites. This way after you earn an License in practical nursing ,you can always go back to school and do a LPN-RN Program which takes a year or less. This way you don't have to retake anything, just additional clinical work for your RN license.

    Huh? Im talking about schools that ONLY HAVE a wait list. Not the ones that accept 100 or so people a year and then put another couple on a wait list. There are schools out there that specifically run their admission program on a wait list. You get put on the wait list at a particular school if you meet all of their requirements and every year the school moves down the list and accepts 100 or so students. Sure, the wait lists are long and it can take a person 2-3 years to finally get in. But they are 100%, absolutely GUARANTEED to get in. Were you not aware that these types of schools exist?

    Did you get out of the abusive relationship? Make sure you're in a good living situation to give yourself the best opportunity to get the best grades possible. You can totally get in somewhere! Just cast your net far and wide and be willing to relocate. Best of luck!!

    CT, I'm pretty much ok with relocating anywhere. And I bought about LPN but I really want to do accelerated and to be done with it ya know. It is a decent amount to retake but they're easy enough classes that I have a little faith. But I will look into lpn a bit more.

    I would not suggest this. Look into LPN and bridge instead.
