You have already taken the first step, you are interested. Six years ago I was just like you, I asked around, I search the web, I buy newspapers (sunday edition), I go to different agencies and check out their offers for nurses. I go to job fairs (For nurses) and I think this is the best way coz you can talk to employers. In your case, you are in Dubai, probably the best way is to search the web, or if you have friends back home, you ask them about certain agencies that hire nurses to USA and probably you can just send your credentials and they can do a phone interview.( Its been done before).
I suggest that you start reviewing for IELTS, if you can do your IELTS in dubai, then good. or toefl and tse. Also, you can start reviewing for your NCLEX. If you pass them both then you are eligible for an immigrant visa.
(EB3).
Some state requires CGFNS, some don't. You need to find a hospital that will hire you, they will provide sponsorship. I think it is wise to use an agency, Most hospitals here uses an agency to hire nurses. Ill give you websites. My hospital give phone interviews but its a small hospital, you might wanna check out bigger hospitals.
About States that you should target....well..it depends on your preference. Here in Virginia, we pay lower taxes, easy to buy a house (I bought mine after 3 months) I luv it, great neighbors, people here are friendly. safe. North Carolina is about 30 minutes from my place. I like it there too, although taxes are slightly higher than Va, but this state is booming. specially Chapel hill in Durham NC (the best place to live in USA, i think it is number 1) Here in Va we have Charlottesville Va. I think it is the 3rd or 4th best place to live.
The highest paid nurses are in California. taxes are high but like i said they pay top dollars. also they have staffing law enforced, which is a very good. Nice climate too. NY and NJ also give top dollars, taxes are high, and verrrryyy cold during winter. they said Texas give good sign on bonuses, warmer climate. also it would be nice if you would get a job in big cities like houston, dallas. Austin is nice too.(thats what my uncle say ) they dont pay state taxes!!!
Arizona is near California, warmer climate, lower taxes and nurse's pay are reasonable. Each state has it's good and bad. If I were you, I will be more concern of the hospital, what kind of benefits they offer. there are a lot of things to consider. Most of them will ask you to sign a two year contract or three. i really suggest that you find a good hospital, I am lucky to find one. I have a three year contract and I am almost done. Some of my fellow nurses after a few months because they went to other states (where they have relatives). That is disappointing. They only used my hospital as a stepping stone to come here. Why not choose a hospital near their relatives anyways.
It is very important that you choose a hospital that you will like, and if you find something better, go ahead but first finish your contract. Employers are kind enough to give sponsorship. they spend thousands of dollars to sponsor nurses. It is but right for us nurses to honor this contracts.
I hope this helps.
