Fil-Am thinking of studying in OLFU

Hello everyone,

I was just wondering if anyone here knows something about Our Lady of Fatima University in Valenzuela. I'm planning on finishing my general ed classes (Anatomy/Physiology,etc) at a community college here in California and I'm thinking of going back to the Philippines to get my BS in Nursing. I was looking at the requirements for admission to OLFU and it said a foreign fee donation is required? Does anyone have an idea of how much that will be? Also, how is international student life over there? And does anyone know if they credit PE classes that I've taken here? Sorry if there's a lot of questions, I just couldn't seem to get enough information even though I've called OLFU myself! :uhoh3:

From California. Just graduated from OLFU-LAGRO Q.C March 2012, FISO Batch 2008-2012 need any info with foreign fees and all just shoot me a PM or reply here.

Fees are listed on the BRN website however as I mentioned in my other post check out the threads discussing current issues with CA and training outside the US

@Silverdragon102 I'm talking about the foreign fees in the school. Cuz dude said he was plannin to go school in the p.i.

I went to OLFU lagro q.c it's $500 each sem. U gotta pay it for 4sems Til 2nd yr 2nd sem.. so $2,000, that's called a Foreign Fee in the school idk about donation maybe that's what your saying.

I graduated from OLFU Valenzuela branch nov. 2012 and with me being a dual citizen. They never had me pay a foreign fee.

U graduated nov. 2012? Foreign fee- it only applies when u go to school as a foreign student using ur U.S Citizenship or any of that sort not dual citizenship/Filipino citizenship.

well then ur taking nstp 1/2 and taking the PI board here and the nclex in US. it's ur choose if u wanna do dual or US citizen wen u in school

To the OP: it makes absolutely NO sense at all to obtain your BSN from PH, if you have any thoughts on working in CA. As others have stated here, CA is not going to change their educational requirements as what the PH colleges offers in their curriculum.

I highly doubt the PRC, CHED and PNA plans to make any changes to the current courses now or in the near future to meet the minimum CA BON requirements and why should they? They don't care if PH grads move on out of the country anyways. Jobs are even more scarce in the PH and lower pay.

But if you plan to make other states your "home" other than CA, go for it! Otherwise it's a total waste of your valuable time and money to try to come back into CA with a PH BSN.

You can try to become a CNA, then LVN in CA, then RN-BSN which is the smarter thing to do, but going to PH to blow four years of studying and still end up as a LVN in CA, I think you see my point.

So don't kid yourself that it's better to get a cheaper BSN degree in the PH only to have "not enough" to show to the CA BON and then try to re-take a course or two in CA that is so very hard to get into, you will have better luck winning the big jackpot with only one dollar played.

All of my PH batchmates (some being new grads this year) are so disappointed with the CA BON strict enforcement, they are having to apply out of CA to start off. Some that don't have a SSN are trying to get a call center job in the PH, so much for 4 years of nursing classes and clinicals.

Yup i took nstp 1-2 but didnt take the NLE. If you're only a us citizen i believe they would ask for a foreign fee. It is your choice.

With the BON implementing new requirements, I suggest that you study in the USA. A lot of Philippine graduates like me (I'm an immigrant) are having a hard time with the ever changing requirements of BON. I'm not only speaking of CA BON. WHo knows when the state you reside at will add application requirements?

Agree. Lanze was just denied applying into VT for unacceptable courses.

Guys don't forget that some states are now also requiring proof of a valid PH license and SSN as well.

I graduated from OLFU Valenzuela, batch 2005. I took the phil. boards and applied for nclex rn in manila with no problems in eligibility. To answer your question, if it's a good school for nursing. YES, it is. At least when I was there. Their curriculum matched the califronia standard, obviously as I have received eligibility to take the nclex rn. I got to califronia on 2008, applied for work as RN, jot down all my experiences while in school and outside school on my resume and landed a job.

My suggestion for you is, go to a nursing school, study hard, pass the exams, get good clinical experience, then apply for a job. Good nursing school is essential but eventhough you're in a good nursing school, that in itself won't make you successful.
