Fibromyalgia

What are your opinions, nurses? Is Fibromyalgia a justified condition or just a basket term ? I am interested in your feedback. It seems like we see a large number of patients (usually women) with "fibromyalgia" and the numbers are getting larger and larger.

I even had a patient tell me that fibromyalgia patients were predisposed to trigeminal neuralgia.

a white cloud floated out of her body, huh????

I do not have fibromyalgia. However, I DO know about being uncomfortable in my body.

Along with being an RN, I also am a Healing Science Practitioner. That means, that I work with the multidimentional Human Energy Field that iminates through and around our bodies, to assist the restoration of balance and health.

A woman came to see me, who suffered from fibromyalgia, also, interstitial bladder disease. She had all of the symptoms the sufferers here have described, along with being Obsessive/Compulsive, thereby increasing her stress level.

During our ONE time together, while standing at her feet, (she was lying on a massage table), I "saw" a thick, white cloud form float up from her body and form over her full length. Using the techniques I have learned, it dissapated.

She got off the table and was symptom free FOR 5 MONTHS! Because she didn't do any follow up work, her symptoms eventually returned, and she discounted that "anything ever happened."

My suggestion to anyone who suffers from this debilitating problem would be to INCLUDE energy work of all forms. Learn techniques you can use yourself. We are living in fantastic times, and these things ARE available.

Often, medications are not energetically compatable with our HEF. They may help for awhile, but eventually create problems of their own. Perhaps that is why many of you instinctively avoid the pharmaceutical management you have been offered.

And what have you been smoking or taking

I went through a period where my pain was so debilitating I developed a situational depression. We don't think clearly when pain controls our lives and our behavior may not appear rational. I've felt like just 'knocking myself out for awhile' might be preferable to the pain I was feeling. So I guess I can understand the correlation without making a judgment that depressed people dream up physical symptoms and that FMS is 'due' to depression.

I truly believe chronic pain sufferers just want their pain controlled. A nurse friend of mine was ignored and ostracized at work by her bosses and even coworkers...til an anesthesiologist tried to do a MUA to her shoulder and she screamed under anesthesia. Final diagnoses was 'probably RSD'...and what started it all up was a flu vaccine given by the employee health nurse....into the shoulder joint bursa.. this nurse lost use of her arm and had a lot of judgment against her...from 'professionals'. I thought that was sad too.

This nurse gives a patient co pain benefit of the doubt whenever possible, and I try not to listen when other healthcare professionals write patients off as 'drug seekers' only. I try to get a referral to our pain doctors if possible. They work at the pain from many different angles.

There is still a lot of judgment towards chronic pain..I've watched nurses ignoring crying patients...critically ill MI patients (just one example)who have gone 3 days without their Duragesic patch and nobody has bothered to get it ordered in the hospital, and are demanding they take Vicodin for their chronic pain. Sad IMO.

Yes its complex and difficult to treat chronic pain of all types, but lets try to keep the judgment out of it. Maybe some see me as a pushover, but I would rather err on that side personally.

Off my soapbox now. ;)

Well, THIS is a safe forum to interact in.....

It's obvious from your comments that you are completely ignorant of your energy body. http://www.sacredmirrors.com gives a beautiful depiction of who we are. Alex Grey is the son of the man who did Grey's Anatomy.

and blissfully so

now if you can show me it will help improve my golf swing

that might get my interest

I agree with Rena RN 2003 on this subject. I have a family member who was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and I have always believed that it was due to the way she lives. She doesn't exercise at all, she has horrible sleeping patterns-- if you could SAY patterns, and as far as a good diet, everyone from family members to doctors has told her she needs to cut back on the things she DOES eat and drink, and start eating health, normal meals, as well as stop smoking. But she does nothing to heed these warnings and take our advice. And she wonders why she's always feeling full of aches, pains, and never having energy......Yeesh!

THe pain that my husband has with fibromyalgia is SEVERE and is nothing like the achy muscles from a long shift of work. He can barely move.

oh and he gets plenty of exercise (walking over 6 miles a day at work), eats just fine (not great, but not terribly either) doesn't smoke and is only sleeping badly because he is believed to have sleep apnea which he is going to have confirmed Wednesday night.

CNM2B, I'm sorry to hear about that.... Are you guys sure it's not anything else? As I'm sure we all know, there's plenty of doctors out there that will write it off as FM instead of looking for another cause for those symptoms. It's quite sad to see how so many doctors are just freely diagnosing things such as FM, depression, etc. as well as new diagnosis' that suddenly everyone seems to be diagnosed with....

I'm not a hypochondriac as I've been truly ill once in my life and that was when I had strep throat and the flu at the same time last year.

I'm not clinically depressed.

The only drugs I take are ibuprofen or naproxen and that's usually once per month.

I'm 31 and have had FM since I was 23. If I take care of myself and get enough sleep and exercise, the only way I know I have it is my trigger points which are always sensitive. If I sit still for too long (road trip etc) sleep too little, am extremely stressed or any combo of the above I am in a world of hurt.

My Mom also has FM, unfortunately worse than I do.

I'm not saying that I don't believe people are suffering from such Dx as FM, depression, ADD, and anxiety. I just feel that doctors are receiving pt.'s with like symptoms and writing it off on whatever the latest Dx is and not thinking twice about it, which is dangerous. They write ya up a perscription for all these different pills and send ya on your way. ..."Next..." :uhoh3:
