Feeling very torn...Mohawk Vs. Conestoga

Published

I'm feeling really torn and I'm looking for some advice.

I had applied to Mohawk College for the RPN program as my first choice (as it's closer to home) and ended up wait listed so I accepted my offer to Conestoga.

School starts in just under two weeks (Sept 6th) and I just got an offer for Mohawk for the RPN program but it's January start date, AHH!

The problem I'm having is that I'm not sure whether or not to continue on with Conestoga or whether I should wait it out and do Mohawk instead. From what I've read I know that a lot of the Mohawk program is self taught as well as blended learning which to be honest after completing a year of Mohawk already I found blended learning to be a pain in the backside.

Is Conestoga set up the same way with the blended learning? It's hard to tell because half of our time table is conflicted and the other half isn't on the timetable yet.

If anyone can offer some advice with regards to either program or their experiences with the programs that would be really great. I'm feeling really torn in which to take right now and I'm running on really limited time in which to make my decision.

Thanks so much!

Conestoga does blended learning as well.

Both schools typically have very good pass rates on the CNO, so you'll probably have to go with your gut. If Mohawk is much closer for you I would do that, you'll thank yourself on clinical mornings (consider that Conestoga will have placements in Kitchener, Waterloo, Guelph, Fergus, even as far as Stratford, to name a few, which may be even further for you to drive.)

I graduated from the RPN program at Conestoga this past April. It is a great program and there are some fantastic teachers. The program is a combination of blended learning and self-directed learning. I found that there are a few courses that I actually needed to be present for every class (some were only because 20% of the grades were participation). But I did feel very prepared and confident for clinical placements thanks to the support of my teachers and all of their lengthy slide shows.

You will probably get the same education at both colleges. If you start in January I have heard that clinical placements are usually better because there tends to be less students. So if you don't mind wait an extra semester and saving your self a crazy winter trek; go with Mohawk.

Good luck with your studies! :bookworm:

If both schools are relatively similar, I would suggest going with Conestoga just because you get to start right away which means you can graduate earlier than Mohawk. Which also means you can also start work as a RPN sooner and make that income of a RPN.
